Early reviews are out for Steven Spielberg’s latest sci-fi film, Disclosure Day, and critics generally agree it’s another excellent alien movie from the acclaimed director.
The movie comes out in UK cinemas today and has received generally positive reviews. It currently has an 85% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 137 reviews, and a 74% rating on another review site after 47 reviews.
Although the new film’s critic scores are slightly lower than those of his previous movies, The Fabelmans and West Side Story (both of which were very well-received), most critics still generally liked it.

Okay, so this website uses something called reCAPTCHA – it’s that little puzzle thing you sometimes get to prove you’re not a robot. Before it loads, they’re asking my permission, which is cool. Apparently, it uses cookies and stuff to work, but I can choose to ‘Accept and continue’ if I’m okay with that and want to see whatever’s behind it. Basically, it’s just a heads-up about privacy before letting this security check do its thing.
TopMob rated the film 3 out of 5 stars, acknowledging the director’s ability to include memorable, impressive scenes that demonstrate why he’s long been regarded as a master of blockbuster entertainment.
We enjoyed the acting, especially Emily Blunt’s performance, but felt the script, written by frequent Spielberg partner David Koepp, was sometimes awkward and lacked focus, which occasionally kept us from fully immersing ourselves in the movie.
The film garnered mostly positive reviews, earning four stars from publications like The Guardian, The Independent, The Evening Standard, and Empire Magazine. However, it also received more critical responses, with two-star reviews from The Times, The Telegraph, Little White Lies, and the BBC.
The film was particularly well-received internationally, earning high praise from RogerEbert.com and positive reviews in publications like The Atlantic, IndieWire, Vulture, and The Hollywood Reporter.
The film Disclosure Day features Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Eve Hewson, Colman Domingo, and Colin Firth. The story centers on a whistleblower who is trying to reveal a huge government secret about aliens, a revelation that promises to change everything.
Disclosure Day is released in cinemas on Wednesday 10 June 2026.
