Actress Michelle Dockery, who played on Downton Abbey, shared her cherished memories of working alongside the late Dame Maggie Smith, expressing that she savored each and every moment together.
The cherished actor, who passed away in September 2024 at the age of 89, portrayed Violet Crawley, the Dowager Countess of Grantham, throughout the entire run of the original historical drama series and in both of its initial sequel movies.
Dockery expressed that working alongside Dame Maggie Smith, who portrays Violet Crawley’s granddaughter Lady Mary in Downton Abbey, is an exceptional experience for him. He shared that he cherished every moment spent acting together, stating, “It’s like playing in a championship tennis match; you bring out your best when working with someone as remarkable as Maggie.
In the upcoming Downton Abbey movie, The Grand Finale, the actress returning to her role noted that she had felt a bit apprehensive when filming certain scenes, despite their long-term friendship and working together for 15 years. (Smith will not be part of this film.)
She went on saying, “I’ll cherish those moments when we enjoyed Bananagrams games during breaks. She was incredibly skilled and delightfully kind.
In the 1930s, the final chapter of Downton Abbey unfolds, focusing on the Crawley family. As the head of the household, Robert Crawley (played by Hugh Bonneville) is preparing to relinquish his position overseeing the cherished estate and pass leadership to his daughter, Lady Mary.
However, the threat of social disgrace and financial ruin soon throws the family into turmoil.
