Now that Halloween is over, the holiday season is officially beginning, and the first Christmas commercials are already starting to air on television.
Asda unveiled its Christmas campaign this weekend, bringing the beloved character, The Grinch, back to television screens.
The commercial features a character who dislikes Christmas shopping with two kids. Staying true to his grumpy personality, he doesn’t seem happy and instead sings a funny song set to the tune of “Let it Snow.”
He sings about how expensive gifts are this year, saying he’s seen a lot of costly items. He’s also running out of money and keeps repeating that he can’t afford anything.
But then he spots a bright, gleaming Asda sign in the distance, and it changes his mind. He’s particularly pleased that the sign is the same green colour as him.
As he walked through the store with a shopping cart, he began to sing: “Things are finally looking up! Wait… am I actually having fun shopping? With these low prices, let’s go, let’s go, let’s go!”
The Grinch, his cart overflowing with holiday treats and crackers, was now feeling incredibly happy. He continued, “Tonight, when we get everything home, it’s going to be a feast! And to those of you who thought I was stingy, look at all this food I’ve brought for everyone!”
The video ends with a house party scene, featuring presents, a turkey dinner, and lots of holiday cheer. You can view the full advertisement below.
I just saw the new ad, and it’s timed perfectly with the 25th anniversary of the Grinch movie! It’s amazing to think it’s been that long since Jim Carrey first played the Grinch – such a classic!
The ad first appeared on the supermarket’s social media pages on Saturday, November 1st. A shorter, 60-second version then debuted on ITV1 at 8:30 pm during a break in the show, The 1% Club.
And we can probably expect to see it on screen an awful lot more in the next couple of months!
Asda is thrilled to introduce its Christmas campaign for this year. Rachel Eyre, Asda’s Chief Customer Officer, explained that while everyone loves Christmas, it can be an expensive time. This year, Asda is dedicated to making sure everyone can enjoy the holidays with joy and celebration, backed by the value of Asda Prices.
If we can convince even the Grinch to feel optimistic, we’re confident that our fantastic products and great prices will help everyone have a wonderful Christmas at Asda.
