After a 20-year break from the original Dragon Ball manga, Akira Toriyama returned with Dragon Ball Super, this time with artwork by Toyotaro. The story picks up a few years after the defeat of Buu, with Goku and his friends enjoying peaceful family lives. While life has been calm, Goku and Vegeta have continued to train relentlessly, pushing their limits. But the peace is shattered when Beerus, the most powerful God of Destruction in the universe, awakens and searches for a Super Saiyan God. Since his battle with Goku, the series has been filled with one exciting adventure after another, as Goku and his friends constantly strive to become even stronger.
After Akira Toriyamaās passing in 2024, the Dragon Ball Super manga is currently paused with no set return date. Fans hope Toyotaro will continue the series, but there hasnāt been an official announcement. The manga currently consists of eight major story arcs, all filled with action and excitement. While none of the arcs are weak, some are definitely more engaging than others.
8) High School Saga

This story arc is the shortest in the series and acts as a lead-in to the larger ‘Super Hero Saga,’ introducing the setup for a new adventure. It takes place four months before the events of the movie, though it’s not quite as action-packed as other parts of the story. We see Trunks and Goten as teenagers, now in high school and following in Gohan’s footsteps as the new Saiyaman X-1 and X-2, eager to start this new phase of their lives.
7) Super Hero Saga

This new installment in the Dragon Ball series continues the story from the 2022 movie, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, focusing on Piccolo and Gohan. Even though Goku defeated the Red Ribbon Army in the past, some people still believe in their ideals. These individuals have built two incredibly powerful androids, Gamma 1 and Gamma 2, who are now posing a threat to Earth.
6) Universe 6 Saga

Soon after introducing Beerusā brother, Champa, the two began a competition for Earth, drawn by its delicious food. Because Champaās Earth was destroyed, he proposed a tournament to win both Earth and the powerful Super Dragon Balls. While the tournament featured exciting battles, like the fight between Goku and Hit, it wasnāt as impactful as the later Tournament of Power, which involved multiple universes.
5) God of Destruction Beerus Saga

The first story arc of the manga retells the events of the ‘Battle of Gods’ movie. In it, Beerus, a powerful god, threatens to destroy Earth unless he finds a worthy opponent in a Super Saiyan God. Goku manages to unlock this powerful form with help from Shenron and other Saiyans, but even then, he struggles to defeat Beerus. Fortunately, Beerus develops a fondness for Earth’s food and people, ultimately deciding to spare the planet.
4) Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga

The anime series will continue adapting the story immediately following the Tournament of Power. This new arc, known as the Moro Arc, features Goku and Vegeta teaming up with the Galactic Patrol to stop Moro, an incredibly powerful, ancient wizard who devours planets. Moro is one of the strongest villains the series has ever seen, pushing Goku and Vegeta to reach new levels of strength to defeat and re-imprison him.
3) Granolah the Survivor Saga

Vegeta has a dark past, having committed terrible acts while working for Frieza, and those actions are now catching up to him. This story arc explores the repercussions of the Saiyans destroying planets, including one called Cereal. Granolah, the sole survivor of Cerealās destruction, seeks revenge on the Saiyans. He uses the Dragon Balls to become incredibly powerful, easily defeating both Goku and Vegeta.
2) Future Trunks Saga

Throughout most of the story, the Saga keeps the villain’s true identity a secret, weaving a complex mystery across different points in time. Future Trunks travels back to the present seeking Goku and the othersā assistance, as the world he tried so hard to save is on the brink of destruction and seems impossible to protect. Despite the combined power of Goku and Vegeta, they couldnāt overcome the villain, Zamasu, which led Goku to take a desperate measure.
1) Tournament of Power Saga

The tournament between universes was the most intense battle yet, with the fate of entire worlds hanging in the balance. Goku and his friends faced incredibly strong enemies, and the fight with Jiren pushed Goku to unlock a powerful new transformation called Ultra Instinct, greatly increasing his strength.
