2026 started with big news for fans of Dragon Ball! At a celebration marking the manga’s 40th anniversary, it was announced that a remake of Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods will be released as part of the Fall anime season. The film revisits the story of Goku encountering Beerus, a tremendously powerful God of Destruction, who is searching for the legendary Super Saiyan God. Beerus expects an easy challenge, but Goku proves to be a surprisingly strong opponent, making Beerus question his search. When Beerus threatens Earth, Goku and the other Saiyans must unlock a powerful, legendary transformation with very specific requirements.
This new version of the film is a complete overhaul, with updated visuals, sound, and editing. Every scene has been reshot, and the filmmakers are working closely with the original creator, Akira Toriyama, using his initial concepts as a guide. Toriyama also wrote the first film, which came out in 2013, before the Dragon Ball Super manga started. A trailer revealing Frieza’s return was recently released during the Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour, confirming this fresh take on the story.
Dragon Ball Star Teases a Frieza Remake

The celebration of the franchise’s 40th anniversary goes on with the Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour. The event shared new updates about Dragon Ball and included a special appearance by Goku’s voice actress, Masako Nozawa. During the event, she unveiled the new trailer for Dragon Ball Super: Beerus and asked fans for their reactions.
Nozawa hinted at a revamped version of the fight between Goku and Frieza, saying the battle between Goku and Beerus was amazing and that seeing Frieza show up at the end was exciting. He hopes fans will be thrilled with this new, more powerful take on the classic Goku vs. Frieza showdown!
Although a new version hasn’t been officially confirmed, comments from voice actress Nozawa and the recent trailer strongly suggest a remake is happening. The trailer highlights the fight between Goku and Beerus with updated animation and improved action. It concludes with the surprising return of Frieza, who was previously killed off in the original Dragon Ball Z series.
Dragon Ball Super: Resurrection ‘F’ Brings Back The Franchise’s Most Iconic Villain

Frieza is widely considered the most recognizable villain in the Dragon Ball series. His incredible power and multiple transformations during the Namek Saga established him as a truly dangerous enemy. He pushed Goku to his absolute limit, ultimately leading to Goku’s first Super Saiyan transformation – a pivotal moment in anime and manga history. Later, even after being defeated by Goku and Beerus, Frieza returns with even greater strength, once again putting the planet in danger.
Driven by a desire for revenge against the Saiyans who killed him, he spends four months training to unlock a new, incredibly strong transformation before attacking Earth. The movie was co-written by Akira Toriyama and first released in April 2015, just three months before the Dragon Ball Super manga started being published.
