The animated series “Dragon Ball Super” has been on an open-ended break since the passing of its creator, Akira Toriyama, last year. However, a recent report suggests that fans may have to wait much longer than they had initially anticipated. Although the TV show concluded in 2018, the storyline has been progressing through new arcs in the manga. In fact, the latest manga chapters even adapted the events of the “Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero” movie into a full comic adaptation before the hiatus began.
Fans of Dragon Ball Super have been eagerly awaiting the resumption of the manga since it took a break due to a suspenseful ending that hinted at the story’s future direction. Although there was a special one-shot chapter published since then, there hasn’t been much activity in the series overall. A recent report by @cliffeur on X indicates that Dragon Ball Super will not be coming back in 2025, and fans are advised to remain patient for more information.
Dragon Ball Super Hiatus to Continue Through 2025
Although it’s not definitive and requires caution, Shueisha has provided the only recent information about Dragon Ball Super’s future. Since Toriyama’s death, the series has been in a state of uncertainty as artist Toyotaro has expressed his intention to carry on the manga without Toriyama (even contributing a new chapter this year), but those who hold the franchise rights are grappling with how to proceed following the creator’s demise.
I recently heard Toyotaro express interest in continuing the Dragon Ball Super manga at Japan Expo this month. He mentioned that since he crafted most of the Granolah the Survivor and Planet Eater Moro arcs independently, a continuation might be feasible with help from Toriyama. While it wouldn’t be easy without him, Toyotaro believes it’s not an impossible task – contrary to initial impressions. He often consults notes from Toriyama and adjusts scenes ahead of final edits when needed.
What Does Dragon Ball Super’s Future Look Like?
The future of Dragon Ball Super is yet undecided, but it holds great promise should it return next year. The latest arc, Granolah the Survivor, left Black Frieza as the most powerful antagonist in Universe 7. Since then, Goku and his companions have been training vigorously to match up against this formidable foe. Therefore, fans eagerly await a resolution to this storyline.
Although some “Dragon Ball Super” manga fans eagerly anticipate fresh tales, a significant number of enthusiasts yearn for the anime’s appropriate comeback. The latest release, “Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero,” offered its unique narrative in 2022, but there’s excitement about a potential TV anime revival that could animate the unfinished Granolah the Survivor and Planet Eater Moro storylines. This wish is even stronger if the manga manages to complete the Black Frieza saga and eventually translate it into an anime adaptation as well.
