The Dragon Ball Genki Dama Festival is happening soon, and fans are excited to see what’s next for the series. The event is so large it replaced the usual Jump Festa presentation. Naturally, lots of rumors are circulating, and Sean Schemmel, who has voiced Son Goku in the English dub for many years, recently shared his thoughts on one of the biggest rumors before the festival begins this weekend.
Like many voice actors, Sean Schemmel regularly streams online, interacting with fans and showcasing his gaming skills. During a recent stream, he addressed the popular rumor of a Dragon Ball Super remake. Schemmel admitted he wasn’t sure why a remake was being considered, saying he didn’t understand the reasoning behind it. He added that he’d be happy either way – whether they used existing recordings or had him re-record his lines. He’s open to whatever the producers decide. You can see the clip of him discussing it below.

A Dragon Ball Remake?

None of the Dragon Ball anime series – including Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball GT, Dragon Ball Super, and the upcoming Dragon Ball Daima – have ever been fully remade. A remake of Dragon Ball Super, which first aired in 2015, would be unexpected after eleven years. While Toei Animation hasn’t officially announced anything, we should find out more at the Genki Dama Festival this weekend.
We have a pretty good idea of what a potential Dragon Ball remake could look like, based on what Toei Animation did in the recent film, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. The movie started by revisiting events from the original Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z series, and Toei used modern animation techniques to beautifully recreate those classic battles and scenes. Hopefully, if a remake is planned, it will feature the same impressive animation quality that has made One Piece so successful for Toei.
Besides the possibility of a remake, Dragon Ball fans are making some exciting predictions about the upcoming Genki Dama Festival. The manga storylines for the Moro and Granolah Arcs haven’t been animated yet, and many believe a second season of Dragon Ball Daima is likely, given the first season’s cliffhanger ending.
