Square Enix isn’t just updating classic Dragon Quest games with improved graphics; they’re completely reimagining Dragon Quest 7: Fragments of the Forgotten Past for modern consoles. The remake features a fresh 3D art style, a refined story, and several gameplay enhancements, even including a brand new ending for dedicated fans.
Producer Takeshi Ichikawa told Game Informer that the game will largely retell the familiar story, but player decisions will lead to a unique ending never before experienced in previous versions of the game.
For those familiar with the story and characters – whether from the original game or the 2016 remake – the creator, Ichikawa, says the new version will offer a unique and different story. But the biggest question for fans is: what will the new ending be like?
It’s natural to wonder how different this reimagining will be from the original Dragon Quest 7, and what changes might lead to the new ending. Fortunately, we won’t have to wait long to find out – Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined comes out on February 5th, 2026, for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
