Following a successful launch this weekend, DreamHack Birmingham has revealed the dates for its 2027 event.
DreamHack began in 1994 as a small local gaming event in Sweden. Today, it’s become a massive international festival and a key part of the competitive esports world.
DreamHack festivals have been held globally for years, but DreamHack Birmingham was the first event of its kind in the UK. It filled the void left by the Insomnia Gaming Festival, which is no longer running.
Although events like Insomnia have become smaller or stopped happening recently, the popularity of DreamHack Birmingham shows that people in Britain still really want to attend these kinds of gatherings.
DreamHack Birmingham attracted over 54,000 attendees from 65 different countries, making it the fourth-best-attended DreamHack event ever.

Hey, so this site uses a security thing called Google reCAPTCHA to help keep things safe from bots. Before it loads anything, it asks for my permission – basically, it wants to let me know it might use cookies and stuff. If I click ‘Accept and continue,’ it’ll load reCAPTCHA and do its job, which is good because I don’t want a bunch of robots messing things up!
The event showcased top esports players, featuring both the ESL One Dota 2 tournament and the Call of Duty League Major II. Together, these competitions offered a total of £1.3 million in prize money.
The event wasn’t just about esports; it also featured appearances by popular content creators like AngryGinge and the Sidemen. Attendees enjoyed a live Dungeons & Dragons game, a cosplay contest, and other exciting activities.
Okay, so DreamHack Birmingham 2026 was a huge hit, and as someone who was there, I can definitely see why! Shahin Zarrabi, one of the heads at DreamHack, said it really shows the UK’s been craving a central place for gaming – something to add to all the other festivals we already have. Basically, they think Birmingham could become the spot for big gaming events in the UK, and honestly, I’m hoping it does!
We’re excited to keep bringing large-scale events to the community, and we’re committed to Birmingham for 2027 to create a lasting and unique impact for the UK, aiming to set a new benchmark for quality.
DreamHack Birmingham will return to the NEC from 2-4 April 2027.
