A new trailer for Dune: Part Three has been released, showcasing the film’s upcoming premiere in 70mm IMAX. The trailer includes some footage from the previous trailer, but also features exciting new clips, including a glimpse of a major character returning – and they appear to be in trouble.
I’m so hyped after seeing the new trailer! It really gives you a sense of just how massive and epic Denis Villeneuve’s final Dune movie is going to be. Honestly, it’s another huge reason why you need to see this one in IMAX – it’s going to be an experience! Check it out and see what I mean.
Dune: Part Three Brings Back A Pivotal Character (We Barely Met)
I was completely surprised when I learned who Anya Taylor-Joy was playing in Dune: Part Three! She’s Alia Atreides, Paul Atreides’ younger sister. But get this – she actually was in Dune: Part Two already! It’s a brief appearance, and I totally missed it the first time around. It’s cool to realize I’d already seen her as Alia, even if I didn’t realize it at the time.
Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune carefully showcases elements of its complex world, including “prescience”—a kind of powerful foresight possessed by certain individuals, like the mothers of the Bene Gesserit order or the Navigators of the Space Guild. This ability is central to Paul Atreides becoming “Lisan al Gaib,” the prophesied savior destined to turn the desert planet Arrakis into a garden world. Paul fully unlocked his prescience by drinking the Fremen’s “Water of Life.” However, when his mother, Lady Jessica, took the elixir while pregnant, it gave her unborn daughter, Alia, full prescient abilities – and psychic powers – even before birth.
Okay, so Anya Taylor-Joy is in Dune: Part Two, but it’s… unusual. She provides the voice of Alia, Paul’s sister, in those really creepy scenes where the unborn Alia is basically plotting things with Lady Jessica. We only see her briefly, in one of Paul’s visions after he drinks the Water of Life – she’s all grown up, standing on a surprisingly green beach on Arrakis. It’s a small role, but a memorable one, and Taylor-Joy definitely brings a chilling presence to the character, even just through her voice and that one visual.
The latest clip from Dune: Part Three suggests Alia Atredies’ storyline will involve significant violence as she fights to secure control of a coastal area.
The third Dune movie will arrive in theaters and IMAX on December 18th. Share your predictions about the film’s surprises and how it will end on the ComicBook Forum!
