A game from EA is currently available for free to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members, but this offer ends in 72 hours. If you have the Essential tier, this doesn’t affect you, as you don’t have access to the game through that tier. However, starting April 21st, the free access will disappear for Extra and Premium members too. After that date, everyone – even those without PlayStation Plus – will need to buy the game from the PlayStation Store for $70 to play it.
PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members with a PS5 or PS5 Pro can play EA Sports PGA Tour for free now through April 21st. Released in 2023 by EA Tiburon, this is the newest game in the EA Sports PGA Tour series, and the first installment since 2015’s Rory McIlroy PGA Tour.
2023 EA Game
EA’s EA Sports PGA Tour, released in 2023, generally received positive reviews, scoring between 72 and 76 on Metacritic – a good result for a sports simulation game. However, user ratings on the PlayStation Store are lower, averaging 2.96 out of 5 stars based on over 4,500 reviews. Similar scores appear on Steam and Xbox, suggesting PlayStation 5 users’ opinions are representative of the overall player experience.
Okay, so here’s the thing about the user reviews for this game. It’s been free a lot – with PS Plus Extra, Premium, even the basic Essential tier at one point. That means tons of PS5 players have grabbed it without actually seeking it out. We all know free games get tried by people who wouldn’t normally buy them, right? And honestly, that often drags down the reviews. If you pay full price for a game, you’re usually pretty invested – you’ve probably watched gameplay or you’re a big fan of the series. But if you’re playing it because it was free with your PS Plus subscription, you’re just checking it out. I’m just saying, I wonder if the game would have better reviews if it hadn’t been so readily available for free on PlayStation Plus.
