EA Is Shutting Down a Game From One of Its Biggest Franchises

Electronic Arts is planning to close down one of its popular game titles within the next few months. This is part of a larger trend over the past year where EA has discontinued online services for several games on various platforms like mobile, PC, and consoles. While these closures haven’t been major issues for most players, this particular shutdown affects a game that some might not remember playing.

Today, EA announced that Battlefield Hardline will no longer be playable after June 22nd of this year. Released in 2015, Hardline stood out from other Battlefield games by focusing on a conflict between cops and criminals instead of traditional warfare. While it tried a new approach, the game didn’t receive very positive reviews and remains one of the less popular entries in the Battlefield series.

Before EA shut down its online store in June, they announced that Battlefield Hardline would no longer be available for digital purchase starting May 22nd. If you want to buy the game digitally, you have about two months to do so. After that date, the only way to get it will be by finding a physical copy.

There Is One Caveat to This EA Shutdown

Electronic Arts (EA) will remove the online features for Battlefield Hardline in June, but not on all systems. The game will no longer be playable online on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles. However, the PC version of Hardline will continue to function online as usual, and there are currently no plans to shut down its servers.

While Hardline isn’t very popular these days and likely won’t be by 2026, it’s good that EA isn’t completely shutting it down. Players who still want to play online matches will still be able to do so on PC. Eventually, the PC version of Hardline might also stop working, but that doesn’t seem likely to happen anytime soon.
