Michelle Collins has teased what lies ahead for Cindy Beale in the coming months on EastEnders.
The actress returned to the BBC One soap in 2023 after more than twenty years, with a surprising twist: her character, previously believed to have died, actually went into witness protection with a new identity.
Cindy Beale’s return was a major highlight during executive producer Chris Clenshaw’s successful time with the soap opera. She was involved in several dramatic storylines, most notably an affair with her former stepson, Junior Knight, which became public on Christmas Day 2024.
Cindy found herself at the center of a dramatic mystery, eventually discovering that her ex-mother-in-law, Kathy Beale, was the one who had attacked her.
Since then, Cindy has dedicated her time to her business, The Albert, and enjoying her grandchildren.
Things have gotten more complicated with the arrival of a new character, Max Branning (played by Jake Wood), who is both a rival and a romantic interest.
At The TopMob Covers Party 2026, we asked Michelle to sum up what Cindy has coming up in just three words.
Thinking carefully, Collins answered: “Exciting. Unpredictable. Irrational.”
It seems the show’s resident troublemaker is gearing up for some bigger and more dramatic moments. But will this lead to renewed conflict with her longtime rival, Kathy?
Michelle shared with a laugh, “We filmed a really funny scene recently! It plays on the classic rivalry between a mother-in-law and her daughter-in-law – they really don’t get along, and it’s fun to just let that dynamic play out.”
It’s true, EastEnders often includes a physical altercation, doesn’t it? When my character returned, the first scene had me being told ‘You’re dead!’ and there was a slap right away. They really do like a good slap in that show, don’t they?

Although Michelle was sad she couldn’t participate in the live 40th anniversary episode, she really enjoyed watching the scenes with Cindy and Kathy, who were both central to the anniversary celebration, and rightfully so!
“I love doing scenes with Gill,” noted Michelle. “It was great to be part of it.”
It looks like Cindy and Kathy’s rivalry will continue for a while! Since they both appeared in the episode showing the future, we can expect to see them clashing for seasons to come.
