Maisie Smith, known for playing Tiffany Butcher on EastEnders, has talked about whether she might come back to the show.
The actress played the character from 2008 to 2022, appearing regularly throughout those years. Her storylines included a marriage to Keegan Baker, a long-running rivalry with Dotty Cotton, and being caught up in a drug smuggling scheme.
In 2022, her character left the show to go and live with her brother Liam in Germany.
I heard on the TopMob podcast, In the Interval, that the real reason I decided to leave EastEnders wasn’t anything dramatic. I absolutely loved playing Tiffany and all the people at the show felt like family, but honestly, I was really craving the chance to perform on stage again. That’s what ultimately made me move on.
Since wrapping up the show, I’ve been really impressed with what Smith’s been up to on stage! She totally nailed the role of Marge in the stage version of ‘The Talented Mr. Ripley,’ and I heard she was fantastic as Beth in Jeff Wayne’s ‘War of the Worlds’ musical. But honestly, seeing her take the lead in ‘Strictly Ballroom the Musical’ – that was a showstopper! She’s really proven her range.

She doesn’t think she’ll be going back to EastEnders anytime soon, as she has other projects planned.
I’m having fun with the chance to play various roles. However, EastEnders will always be around, and I feel very connected to the show – both because of my on-screen work and my relationships with the people involved; it feels like a second family.

During the interview, she also discussed Tiffany’s well-known phrase ‘NFI’ – short for ‘not flipping invited’ – and shared how surprisingly often people say it to her, even when she’s just out and about.
She explained she wasn’t sure exactly when people started identifying her as the one who says ‘you are NFI,’ but it happened very quickly – almost overnight.
