Ecco the Dolphin Returns in Retro Collection Featuring a Brand New Game, But Will It Be on PS5?

Okay, gamers, I’ve been waiting years for this! Finally, we’re getting the first official scoop on Ecco the Dolphin making a comeback! It feels amazing after all this time.

A&R Atelier and SEGA have teamed up to bring back the classic underwater adventure with Ecco the Dolphin: Complete. This remastered package includes both Ecco the Dolphin and Ecco: The Tides of Time, offering all versions of the beloved game.

Perhaps even more exciting, the compilation will also include a brand new Ecco game.

A&R Atelier is a studio founded by people who previously worked on the game Ecco, including its creator, Ed Annunziata, and other key members of the original development team responsible for the game’s music, art, and code.

The original creators of Ecco – the people behind its unique world, music, and captivating mysteries – are the ones bringing the game back. This isn’t a remake by a different studio; it’s Ecco as they always envisioned it, brought to life by the team who first imagined it.

Okay, so I’m super excited about Ecco the Dolphin: Complete! They’re not just bringing back the classics, they’re adding some really cool stuff for us gamers. We’re talking built-in support for speedrunning, which is awesome, plus achievements and leaderboards to really test my skills. And get this – there are going to be these ‘meta’ quests that connect all the games in the collection! It sounds like they’re really going all out to make this a complete experience.

You can also build your own playlists of levels from any game, letting you play them in the order you choose, and then share your custom course with other players.

Fans are excited about this, but the big question now is which devices it will be available on. The official announcement doesn’t say which platforms it will support, though we anticipate it will likely be available on most, if not all, current gaming systems. We’re hoping to get more details soon.

Currently, the website shows a countdown timer that will finish later today, April 22nd, 2026. We’re hoping to learn more details when the timer reaches zero.

There’s been talk of bringing Ecco back for quite a while. About a year ago, Annunziata announced he wanted to revive the series, and we’ve been learning more details gradually since then.
