Myrkur Games, the developer behind “Echoes of the End“, has unveiled a fresh video showcasing the core gameplay, fast-paced action, and cinematic combats of their upcoming action RPG. In this video, Performance Director Dadi Einars discusses how the studio aims to stimulate players to quickly choose between options in the heat of intense combat. Take a look at it below.
To begin with, Einars discussed the responses the studio received following the release of its gameplay trailer last week. He pointed out that a portion of the feedback centered around the game’s combat appearing sluggish. In response, he mentioned that modifications have already been implemented in the game, and further enhancements are continually being developed. He also highlighted that the gameplay clips shown in the recent video stemmed from an earlier version of Echoes of the End. Consequently, the advancements made to the game since then aren’t visible in the newly released footage.
In the creation of “Echoes of the End“, Einars mentioned that certain foundational elements were already planned for the combat system. The primary emphasis was on Ryn, who is both a skilled warrior and a vestige with innate powers for ancient destructive magic. To ensure players feel powerful, she was designed to be strong. Secondly, the combination of melee combat and magic was intended to be the core gameplay experience. It’s all about agility and accuracy, dodging in and out of range, and utilizing your abilities to manipulate the battlefield.
As a gamer, I purposefully designed Ryn’s challenges not to be a walk in the park. Sure, she’s powerful, but it’s precisely her strength that gives her a fighting chance against the formidable foes she’ll encounter during her adventure.
During the presentation, we get a glimpse into some of Ryn’s combat skills, demonstrating with gameplay programmer Oksar Emanuelsson. From the beginning of the game, Ryn possesses various abilities such as standard attacks and dodges. However, what sets this game apart is the “shift” ability, which is my personal favorite, enabling you to pick up an enemy and move it to another location. This skill offers creative ways to eliminate enemies; for instance, by shifting them off cliffs and allowing gravity to take care of the rest.
A significant portion of the remaining video focuses on Emanuelsson’s analyses of the combats depicted in last week’s trailer. He also shared some behind-the-scenes information about the encounter design that was highlighted in the trailer. For instance, Ryn is tasked with handling several opponents while her combat partner Abran employs his unique abilities to assist her during these encounters.
On August 12, the anticipated title Echoes of the End is set to debut on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. This launch date was unveiled via a trailer, offering a sneak peek at the game’s combat system and the magical powers that characters Ryn and Abran will wield during their joint journey, as hinted in the footage.
