Taylor Sheridan’s western TV world continues to flourish, with at least three upcoming spin-offs from Yellowstone set to premiere within the next year. While Luke Grimes’ Y: Marshalls and its ensemble may garner the largest initial viewership on CBS, it’s likely that fans are most eager for the new series starring Rip and Beth, which began filming in Texas in August, and could be titled Dutton Ranch (though
It was earlier announced that Annette Bening took on a powerful ranch owner role in the spinoff. Now, it’s been disclosed that the acclaimed, award-winning actor Ed Harris has signed up for the cast with a character that deviates from what one might anticipate for an actor renowned for his work in productions like Westworld, Frontera, Sweetwater, Appaloosa, and others.
Ed Harris Will Play Mild-Mannered Everett McKinney
By the set deadline, Ed Harris’ upcoming spinoff character is not portrayed as a relentless cowboy driven by revenge, nor does it seem he’ll be fiercely protecting his modest ranch in typical western fashion. Instead, his role appears to diverge significantly from what one might expect in a Taylor Sheridan series, which often features characters entwined with violence and vengeance.
Harris’ character Everett McKinney is depicted as a seasoned individual, much like someone who has weathered many storms, yet there’s an intriguing twist suggesting he may exhibit a greater degree of compassion and concern towards animals than people. It’s also worth mentioning that Everett possesses a fine knack for humor.
It’s surprising to imagine a tough actor adopting such a cheerful animal-loving role in a series set within the Yellowstone universe, or any other Taylor Sheridan production. Similarly, it would catch me off guard if Harris played the same character on Landman or Tulsa King.
It appears that my intuition strongly suggests Mr. McKinney has some questionable secrets hidden beneath his jovial demeanor and healing talents with animals. Picture this: Rip invites Everett to visit the new home he shares with Beth, only for the veterinarian to be confronted by a sick horse. In an unexpected turn, Everett might experience a traumatic flashback, accusing Rip of intentionally harming the animal, leading to a violent escalation of events.
The Yellowstone spinoff starring Rip and Beth, which is expected to air after the 2025 TV schedule has concluded, is set to introduce more cast members soon. So keep an eye out for updates!
