Eddie Brock is a Perfect Carnage (& This is Why)

This year in February, the comic series “Eddie Brock: Carnage” was introduced, placing Venom’s primary host, Eddie Brock, at the wheel of the symbiote Carnage. Given their usual behavior towards each other, it came as a shock to see Venom and Carnage part ways with their respective hosts. For fans who hadn’t been closely following the Venomverse, this sudden change, happening months after the previous “Carnage” series had concluded, was quite unexpected yet exciting. The idea that such an event would never happen has now become one of Marvel’s biggest surprises in terms of symbiotes. Add to that Charles Soule as the writer, and fans are in for a treat!

As a die-hard film enthusiast, I’ve got to say that following the tumultuous events in Venom War #5, the dynamic between Eddie and Carnage has taken an intriguing twist. Historically, Carnage was bound to serial killer Cletus Kasady, while my character, Eddie Brock, became a reluctant host for Venom after a long line of predecessors. Now, with these two powerful entities sharing one body, I find myself grappling with an internal struggle between my desire to uphold the good and Carnage’s innate bloodlust.

Carnage, on the other hand, yearns to take down the big guns of the Marvel Universe, fueling his insatiable thirst for violence. It’s a dangerous dance as we share this body, but it mirrors the complex relationship between Dexter in both the novel series and its TV adaptation – two characters bound by their dark impulses yet striving to maintain some semblance of morality. This new pairing might just be Carnage’s most compelling alliance yet.

Eddie and Carnage Make for an Odd but Fascinating Couple

eliminating certain global supervillains in exchange for a few passengers at a time.

The primary conflict between these two characters unfolds here, as Carnage isn’t content with merely eradicating evil individuals; he aims to push Eddie beyond his limits. With Carnage constantly whispering in his ear, Eddie demonstrates remarkable self-control, attempting to navigate the situation as best he can. This internal struggle gives Carnage a more complex characterization compared to his previous portrayals. Previously, Cletus would simply target people for a higher body count, but this conflict between Carnage’s bloodlust and Eddie’s moral compass adds depth and intrigue. As a result, the internal conflicts within the symbiote and host begin to manifest externally, with Eddie pursuing both serial killers and coexisting with one inside his own mind. This dynamic has produced the most compelling portrayal of Carnage yet, making both characters feel unique and fresh.

This presentation of Carnage raises some intriguing questions about the true essence of the character. With Eddie serving as his host, Carnage appears to be more sly and manipulative than previously depicted, often taking complete control over Eddie. This dynamic leaves readers questioning just how much power Cletus Kasady truly possessed. In turn, this revelation invites a renewed admiration for and a fresh take on past Carnage narratives.

Sadly, This Probably Won’t Last

The main concern about this combination is quite straightforward, it seems inevitable that it won’t persist. Given the unusual dynamics between these characters, they are bound to revert to their original hosts at some point. Carnage and Venom may resurface in various forms, with Cletus and Eddie respectively. This impending separation feels more pressing with each new issue. However, there remains a chance that both Carnage and Eddie might undergo transformations that will influence their individual narratives moving forward. Some of these changes could be triggered by the challenges this unusual duo will encounter before they part ways – challenges hinted at in the current storyline itself.
