Edie Falco, famous for playing Carmela on The Sopranos and winning three Emmys for the role, is now starring in a TV show that’s become popular on Netflix. This show originally was intended to follow The Sopranos, and its success comes before a new revival of the original series is released.

After seeing Edie Falco absolutely nail her role in a crime drama, I was so excited to see her in something totally different! She became Nurse Jackie, and it was brilliant – a funny but also really moving show about a nurse working in a New York City emergency room. It ran for seven seasons on Showtime, and honestly, she deserved all the praise she got, including an Emmy for playing Jackie! She was nominated for so many other awards too, and rightfully so.

I’m honestly surprised, but really pleased to see Nurse Jackie having a moment again! Even though it originally wrapped up back in 2015, the show is currently killing it on Netflix. As of today, October 21st, 2025, FlixPatrol tells me it’s the ninth most-watched show on the platform. And get this – it was only added to Netflix in the US on October 7th, so it climbed into the Top 10 in just two weeks! It proves good television really does stand the test of time.

The popularity of Nurse Jackie on Netflix shows how well-received the show was when it originally aired on Showtime. It was nominated for 24 Emmys and consistently attracted a loyal audience throughout its seven seasons. The show’s long run has solidified its place as one of Edie Falco’s most memorable roles.

The show is gaining popularity again on Netflix just as plans to bring it back are underway. Showtime announced in 2023 that Nurse Jackie would be revived, with Edie Falco returning as the star and an executive producer. However, there haven’t been any updates since then about when the new series will air or how the story will continue after the original show’s conclusive finale.

The show’s increasing popularity could be due to Taylor Falco’s appearance in season 4 of Mayor of Kingstown. In the Paramount+ crime drama, she plays Nina Hobbs, a prison warden who often clashes with Jeremy Renner’s character, Mike McLusky. The new season begins streaming on October 26th, and marks Falco’s first major TV role since Bupkis on Peacock in 2023.

Now that Falco’s career is thriving and Nurse Jackie still has potential, the show’s popularity on Netflix is certainly earned. It’s currently at number nine, but having reached the Top 10 just six days ago suggests it could gain even more viewers. This renewed success on Netflix is encouraging for Showtime and their future projects.
