In 2023, Bethesda Game Studios commenced full production on The Elder Scrolls, right after the release of Starfield. It appears that the development process is progressing smoothly. More than seven years since the game’s initial announcement, the upcoming fantasy RPG is said to be in a stage where it can be played quite extensively.
As a gamer myself, I’m thrilled to hear that the latest game we’ve all been eagerly waiting for has reached a playable stage, according to recent updates from Xbox. But
The Elder Scrolls 6 hits playable milestone
In the recent installment of The Xbox Two podcast, well-known Xbox journalist Jez Corden asserted that the fundamental gameplay for The Elder Scrolls 6 has been largely completed, with the storyline of quests being designed to complement the improved features of the forthcoming sequel.
According to Corden, the game has reached a stage that can be considered “quite playable,” even though its full-scale production began late in 2023. However, the journalist shared limited insights into the specifics of the game, such as its content and how the new core differs from previous versions.
During the same broadcast, Corden asserted that the development of Fallout 5 had officially begun, despite his earlier statement implying that the game might have played a role in the cancellation of the upcoming MMO from the developers of The Elder Scrolls Online – an assumption later proven false.
Apart from significant challenges such as COVID-19 and the extensive overhaul required for Starfield, Bethesda’s game development progress is typically quite rapid. Given that many technological foundations are already established and a substantial portion of pre-production has been completed, Elder Scrolls 6 is expected to be one of the most meticulously planned installments in the series’ entirety.
Previously, Todd Howard indicated that The Elder Scrolls 6 might come out between 15 and 17 years following Skyrim’s debut. If this timeline holds true, it suggests a potential launch in 2026. It’s also relevant to mention that Bethesda usually announces their games quite close to release, so it’s likely we’ll see the game and its release in the same year.
It’s anticipated, though yet unverified, that The Elder Scrolls 6 will be available for play on Personal Computers, Xbox Series, and PlayStation 5 gaming platforms.
