Ella Purnell has officially left the vault and gone on a murderous rampage for Sweetpea season 2.
Ella Purnell, recently recognized for her role as Lucy in the Prime Video series Fallout, completely transformed for her part in Sweetpea. She played Rhiannon, a quiet, unassuming woman who becomes a killer in this darkly funny and suspenseful thriller set in England. The show is based on the novel of the same name by C.J. Skuse, and fans are already excited about season 2, which promises even more intense action.
A new image from the upcoming season of the Sky and Starz series shows actress Purnell holding a ketchup bottle with the word “monster” visible on a wall behind her. Purnell is reprising her role as the dangerous Rhiannon, following the shocking events that ended season one two years ago. Sky has also revealed a summary of what viewers can expect in the new season.
Rhiannon is dealing with a lot at once: a new job, a tempting new relationship, and a dangerous killer who seems to be imitating her past. As the threats pile up, she starts to wonder if her ex-boyfriend, AJ, was right about her – if she really is capable of monstrous acts.
The thriller series Sweetpea, which premiered in 2024 and received high praise – including an 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes – has been renewed for a second season. While a second season was announced earlier this year, production is now officially underway. New cast members joining Sweetpea season 2 have also been revealed.
I’m really excited about some of the new faces joining the cast! We’ve got Rish Shah coming on board as Gabriel, who’ll be a love interest for Rhiannon. Tamsin Greig is fantastic and she’s playing AJ’s mum, Liv. Taj Atwal joins as Freya, Rhiannon’s new – and sounds pretty tough – boss at the Carnsham Gazette, and Jenny Walser will be playing Daisy, a new friend. Thankfully, a lot of the original cast are returning too – Jon Pointing, Jeremy Swift, Leah Harvey, Ingrid Oliver, Nitin Ganatra, and Alexandra Dowling will all be back, which is great news!
Melanie Purnell, who you might recognize from shows like Fallout, Yellowjackets, and Arcane, has several upcoming projects, including That Time We Met, The Scury, and Viqueens, where she’ll play Princess Ingrid. Her new show, Sweetpea, is currently streaming on Starz, but a release date for the second season hasn’t been announced yet.
