Emma Stone Finally Gets to Shine as Spider-Gwen in Amazing Spider-Man Fan Art

Emma Stone convincingly showcased her suitability as Spidey’s initial love interest, Gwen Stacy, through her clever and touching performances in The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. However, as her character perished in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in 2014, a fresh take on the character was emerging in the comics. Known as Ghost-Spider or “Spider-Gwen,” this new version of Gwen Stacy rewrote the classic Spider-Man narrative we’re familiar with. Instead of Peter Parker receiving the radioactive spider bite and developing web-slinging powers, it was Gwen who underwent the transformation. Tragically, Peter’s self-transformation into the Lizard in his quest to be extraordinary like Gwen led to his demise, inspiring Gwen to take up heroism in his memory.

Since Stone has won hearts as Gwen and possesses the acting talent to portray both Gwen’s sorrow and humor, it’s understandable that fans would be excited about her reappearance in the live-action Spider-Verse as the Ghost-Spider version of her character. Thanks to artist Mohd Harris from the Marvel fan art account @welove__marvel, we have a vivid image of what Stone’s comeback as Spider-Gwen might look like. In Harris’ artwork, Stone is depicted wearing Gwen’s famous pink, white, and black spider-suit, including teal ballet slippers, as she swings through Manhattan. The most intriguing aspect? Harris pairs her with Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker once more.

We See Two Ways for Stone’s Spider-Gwen to Appear on Screen

The witty portrayal of Spider-Gwen in the art has us yearning for a real-life version even more. Although it’s expected that Marvel and Sony might choose a newcomer to play Gwen permanently on screen, there are possibilities for Andrew Garfield to make a guest appearance as Spider-Gwen within the MCU. In Spider-Man: No Way Home, we discovered that the loss of Gwen had been a heavy burden on Garfield’s Parker for years following the events of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. He admits to his other counterparts, “Peter 1” (Tom Holland) and “Peter 2” (Tobey Maguire), that he felt “angry” and “bitter” about Gwen’s demise. By the end of No Way Home, Garfield’s Peter Parker finds redemption by saving MJ (Zendaya) from a fall similar to the one that claimed Gwen’s life.

This scene between “Peter 3” and Spider-Gwen holds immense emotional potential, leaving us curious about their interaction. Regardless of whether she was his ‘Gwen’ or not, knowing that a version of the woman he once loved is thriving and fighting for justice could be incredibly impactful for Peter. Moreover, both actors, Andrew Garfield (twice nominated) and Emma Stone (two-time Oscar winner), have proven their ability to deliver powerful performances, making this moment a likely tear-jerking event.

A potential opportunity for Stone to make a live-action appearance arises within Sony’s animated Spider-Verse, specifically in “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.” This film combines animated and live-action versions of the hero, depicting significant events from the live-action Peter’s adventures alongside Miles Morales and Miguel O’Hara. Previously, Donald Glover, who played a role in “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” appeared in the animated Spider-HQ as a variant of the villain The Prowler. In the current animated Spider-Gwen series, Hailee Steinfeld lends her voice, but a brief scene with Stone’s Spider-Gwen could excite fans greatly.
