Emma Stone’s thrilling new movie, Bugonia, is now available to stream! Critics are raving about it – it currently has an 87% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is being called an “eccentric masterpiece.” If you’re looking for a captivating sci-fi film from 2025, this is definitely one to watch.
Yorgos Lanthimos, the five-time Oscar nominee behind Poor Things, now has his latest film, Bugonia, available to rent or buy online. The movie is a reimagining of the 2003 Korean film Save the Planet! and follows a CEO, played by Emma Stone, who is kidnapped by two young men convinced she’s an alien intent on destroying Earth. The film also stars Jesse Plemons, Aidan Delbis, Stavros Halkias, and Alicia Silverstone.
MovieWeb can exclusively reveal a new behind-the-scenes featurette from the film, which can be watched below. The clip includes the cast and crew discussing the script by Will Tracy. Stone and Plemons, who have been longtime collaborators of Lanthimos, make it immediately clear why they felt compelled to make Bugonia their latest collaboration. From the twist and turns to the off-beat tone, Bugonia delivered layers of exceptional material that felt like the height of Lanthimos’ work. Read the official logline:

‘Bugonia’ Writer Says the Film Became “More Relevant” Than Intended
In a recent interview with MovieWeb, the writer of Bugonia, Will Tracy, shared some interesting insights into the film’s script. He explained that while the sci-fi thriller touches on important social and political issues, he didn’t deliberately set out to make it timely or directly address current events.
Trying to constantly chase the latest trends to stay relevant is a risky strategy, especially in filmmaking. Movies, and really any art form, take a significant amount of time to create, so by the time a project is finished, the initial trend may have already passed.
Tracy explained that he intentionally created Bugonia to feel timeless and relatable to audiences at any point in the future. To achieve this, he deliberately left out specific details that would tie the film to a particular moment in time, such as mentioning the current President.
What strikes me about this film is how little it actually says about specifics – you don’t even know who the president is! It’s not about details, it’s more about capturing a feeling, an atmosphere. Honestly, I think we stumbled into something special. It’s funny, even when I was writing it, I never imagined it would become as relevant as it has – it’s become more than I ever intended.
