As a devoted movie buff, I just wanted to issue a heads-up – if you haven’t yet caught up with yesterday’s (Monday 1st September 2025) installment of Emmerdale, beware, there are spoilers ahead. You can now stream it on ITVX!
John Sugden, portrayed by Oliver Farnworth, is in for a surprise on next week’s Emmerdale, which airs on September 2nd, 2025.
In the woods, the treacherous John is keeping Lawrence Robb, who went by Mackenzie Boyd, imprisoned inside an ancient bomb shelter hidden below ground. This hideout came about following an attack where John shot Mackenzie with an arrow and intentionally injured his ankle using a rock.
On September 1st, Mack’s desperate bid for an escape ended unfavorably as John apprehended him during a confrontation.
On Monday, the 1st of September, Mack’s frantic attempt to flee ended up getting him caught by John in the heat of the action.
The previous segment ended with ominous words from John, warning Mack about the grave danger he faced, and as events unfold further, we find John back at the fortress, where wounded Mack pleads again for mercy.

John appears distant towards him due to his suspicion of Mack’s deceit, which he believes has led to his predicament, while Aaron Dingle (played by Danny Miller) remains oblivious to John’s activities.
Aaron has consented to relocate to the cottage that turned out to be John’s old family home, serving now as their permanent residence.
However, eventually, Aaron has begun to notice John’s peculiar actions, given that he consistently goes off by himself.
John isn’t pleased when Aaron sets off unexpectedly on his own mission, which leads John to pay another visit to Mack.
Mack informed John that his medical situation required assistance beyond what John could provide. However, John asserted that he was the most capable professional Mack had at his disposal.

However, as Mack attempts to rationalize with John but encounters resistance, he retorts with something potentially game-changing.
John is unaware, but what did Mack tell him, and will it aid or complicate his quest for liberation?
You can catch Emmerdale now via ITVX, or wait until 7.30pm on ITV1 to find out what John does next.
