Emmerdale airs menacing twist for Robert Sugden in ITVX edition

Robert Sugden, portrayed by Ryan Hawley, might feel remorseful for taking on the role of a detective in the recent installment of Emmerdale, airing on Friday, 25th July 2025.

Suspecting foul play after finding a written murder confession from Owen Michaels (Simon Haines), who had just drugged him, Robert relied on his gut feelings when he learned that his half-brother John (Oliver Farnworth) had seen Owen.

On Thursday, July 24th, when Robert managed to find Owen’s sibling, Steve (Siôn Eifion), he shared his doubts about whether deceased Owen was indeed responsible for the death of Nate Robinson (Jurell Carter).

Steve confessed that, in reality, Owen was with him in Hull when the crime occurred, and Robert emphasized the importance of sharing this alibi with the police.

However, Steve clarified that the work he and Owen were engaged in was unlawful. Consequently, he had no intention of disclosing any information to the authorities.

Surprised that Steve appeared unconcerned about clearing his brother’s name, Robert advised him to omit any questionable information related to the police when discussing the matter.

Later on, Steve was told by him to keep him updated about the result, however, as the storyline unfolded, it was Robert who made his way to the police station instead.

His eagerness to join in stems directly from his doubts about John, and viewers are convinced that Robert is spot-on in this instance, as it was indeed John who orchestrated Nate’s demise and hid his body in the lake.

Over the past few weeks, John has attempted to implicate widow Tracy (Amy Walsh) in the matter of Nate’s discovery, but when this didn’t prove effective, he shifted his efforts towards framing Owen instead.

Robert is on the verge of revealing his suspicion that John orchestrated these ominous happenings, yet it significantly turns against him instead.
