In Emmerdale, Cain Dingle (played by Jeff Hordley) recently had surgery to remove his prostate after being diagnosed with cancer.
The character’s life has been turned upside down. His wife, Moira, was falsely accused and jailed for manslaughter and human trafficking when two bodies were discovered on their farm. Robert Sugden framed her, and it was revealed he was being forced to do so by Joe Tate.
They secretly wanted to take over Butler’s farm, putting Moira in a difficult position where she’d be forced to sell. Concerned about the financial consequences for his family, Cain started a new farming business at Wishing Well Cottage.
After Moira was released from prison, Cain worried that their intimate life would be affected by her treatment and whether their marriage could withstand any resulting changes.
Even though she kept saying things would stay the same, he worried about possible problems with bladder control and ultimately decided against having the surgery.

Only after Eric Pollard, a respected member of the village (played by Chris Chittell), offered a different perspective did he start to focus on the good aspects of things.
Pollard admitted he was worried about what the future held, especially with his Parkinson’s, and confessed he deeply wished he had a close-knit family like the Dingles.
Cain realised that he had to continue fighting, and in today’s episode, headed to the hospital.
Kyle and Isaac Winchester were very worried about their father’s upcoming procedure. Their mother, Moira, tried her best to comfort them, assuring them he would be alright. Kyle was especially upset when he accidentally heard his dad ask the nurse to pass on a message of love to his family, just in case he didn’t wake up.
Thankfully, it wasn’t long before a doctor told Moira and her sons that Cain’s surgery had gone well.
As Cain was wheeled back to his room, he started to understand just how different his life was becoming. Moira chattered happily about their future possibilities, but Cain’s attention was fixed on the nurse attaching a catheter.
What will Cain’s recovery be like, and will he prioritize self-care during that time?
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 8pm on ITV1 and from 7am on ITVX.
