Eventually, even the best experiences must conclude. In a similar vein, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) is bidding farewell to its last-generation platforms, specifically Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
PUBG’s Final Days on Xbox One
In the bustling gaming landscape, I find PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) standing tall as an undisputed colossus. PUBG Mobile reigns supreme among mobile gamers, while its Steam counterpart continues to captivate vast crowds, often soaring beyond 700,000 simultaneous players. This monstrous success has been Krafton’s accomplishment, but it seems that the previous generation of consoles might be hindering its progress now.
In a recent update from PUBG’s Korean news post, it was announced that starting November 13, 2025, the game will no longer be supported on Xbox One and PS4 consoles. From this date forward, PUBG can only be played on the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 platforms.
The team at the studio shared that this modification is included in a crucial upgrade aimed at maximizing modern gaming hardware. This means you’ll experience better graphics and smoother gameplay. Excitingly, all your saved data and purchased items will still be available on Xbox Series and PlayStation 5 without any interruption.
Other Major Games ending Xbox One and PS4 Support
It’s not just PUBG that’s transitioning away from previous-generation hardware. Earlier this year, The First Descendant made an announcement to discontinue its support for both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions, even though it was only released in 2024. As of June 19, 2025, the game is no longer accessible on either the Xbox One or PS4 platforms.
Hunt: Showdown bid farewell to its legacy platforms as it debuted on newer systems, having previously been available for about three years on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 before discontinuation.
The console version of Rust titled “Rust: Console Edition” will be discontinuing its support for last-generation systems this year, with servers shutting down in October and the game no longer available for purchase. However, Facepunch Studios has assured that owners on older consoles can upgrade to newer ones at no additional cost.
Although Genshin Impact wasn’t playable on Xbox One, it’s important to mention that it made its debut on Xbox Series X|S towards the end of last year. Notably, due to hardware constraints, the game developers have announced that they will be discontinuing support for the PlayStation 4 version of the game.
