Enola Holmes Proves Adaptations Don’t Have to Stay Faithful

The Enola Holmes movies are unusual because fans generally approve of the changes made from the original books. In the books, Tewkesbury is a small character and isn’t romantically involved with Enola, and there’s a larger age difference between them. However, viewers enjoyed the chemistry between Millie Bobby Brown and Louis Partridge in the first movie, so the filmmakers brought Tewkesbury back for the sequel. The first look at Enola Holmes 3 suggests the romance will be a major focus, hinting that Enola and Tewkesbury’s relationship is becoming serious, potentially even leading to a proposal.

It’s likely that the third Enola Holmes movie will draw inspiration from Nancy Springer’s novel, “The Case of the Bizarre Bouquets.” The film’s ending hinted at this by introducing Himesh Patel as Doctor John H. Watson, Sherlock Holmes’ roommate and a key figure in the book. However, it’s surprising that Watson isn’t more prominently featured in the current promotion, suggesting the movies might continue to take liberties with the original stories.

The third Enola Holmes movie is expected to be quite a departure from the first two. Philip Barantini, known for directing films like Adolescence and Boiling Point, is now directing, and sources say he’s taking the story in a more serious and darker direction. We can likely expect a trailer soon as Netflix continues to promote the film, which is scheduled for release in 2026.
