After laying off over 1,000 employees, Epic Games is focusing more on regular, seasonal updates for Fortnite. They’ve even discontinued some game modes like Ballistic, Rocket Racing, and Festival Battle Stage. According to sources at Bloomberg, a key focus for the company is their partnership with Disney, which reportedly includes developing a new shooting game.
This isn’t your typical extraction shooter. It’s being described as similar to ARC Raiders, but with a Disney twist. According to sources, players will fight enemies and then try to escape, so you should probably get ready to see teams of armed Disney characters like Mickey Mouse, Snow White, and Moana.
Internal reviews suggest the upcoming game isn’t particularly innovative, but it’s still on track to launch by November. Beyond that, two other games are reportedly in the works. One is receiving average feedback internally, while the other has been paused to focus on the first game, reportedly because Disney wasn’t happy with how long it was taking to release.
It’s still unclear if Disney’s $1.5 billion investment will help Epic Games revive interest in Fortnite. However, with that much money involved, you can be sure these games – whether successful or not – will be released.
We’ll keep you informed as things develop. In the meantime, you can read what one analyst thinks about the Epic Games and Fortnite situation.
