It seems like public opinion can quickly shift from admiration to disapproval and back again. Actress Erin Moriarty, famous for playing the superhero Starlight in Amazon’s popular series The Boys, is currently facing uncertainty about her future with the show and whether fans will embrace her again.
Starlight was incredibly popular, and she even made fun of herself privately to maintain her good public image – there’s a memorable instance with The Deep in the first season – but she eventually realized the truth about Homelander and Vought International. This led her to rebel, making her an outcast and forcing her to go into hiding.
It’s Been Dark Days for Starlight in The Boys
Affection is slowly being rekindled, and more and more people are being inspired by Starlight’s courage to speak out.
A quickly expanding group has started to influence the popular spin-off, Gen V, giving Marie Moreau a heads-up and assisting her and her friends. They knew Moreau would be crucial to the events unfolding in the fifth and final season of The Boys.
Despite her current status, Starlight still often feels isolated, continuing to prioritize the safety of her followers above all else. This is a far cry from the seemingly wholesome, polished image of her early appearances, where she was presented as a devout and innocent figure.
Erin Moriarty Hints At What’s To Come in Season 5
Annie January, who prefers not to be called Starlight, is expected to fully come into her own in Season 5. She’s developed into an independent and self-assured woman, moving past being a follower or someone easily led.
What might that look like, though?
As a film and TV lover, what really struck me about her performance was how it showed the long time she’d spent alone, dealing with everything. It felt like a hint of what was to come – that isolation can lead to a kind of hopelessness, and we start to see that creep into her character right from the first episode of the new season.
This Starlight is far more intense and uncompromising than viewers have seen throughout The Boys, but she’s still fighting to stay true to her values.
The two-episode premiere of Season 5 of The Boys will debut on Prime Video on April 8.
