Ethan Slater is dancing through life with admiration for his costars.
The actor who plays SpongeBob SquarePants attended the New York City premiere of Wicked: For Good on November 17th and enthusiastically praised Scarlett Spears, the 8-year-old actress who plays a young Glinda – the character Ariana Grande portrays in the movie.
Ethan praised Scarlett’s performance in the movie, telling TopMob News’ Justin Sylvester that she was “unbelievably good.” He added that he’s excited for audiences to see it, describing it as “really sweet” and “cute.”
The 33-year-old actor praised Scarlett’s performance in the upcoming Wicked movie, calling her “the best.” He also shared how much he enjoyed playing Munchkin Boq and working with director Jon M. Chu, alongside Ariana, Cynthia Erivo, Jonathan Bailey, Michelle Yeoh, and Jeff Goldblum.
Ethan explained that seeing the first movie with an audience was special because everyone reacted to the same emotions the cast and crew had felt while filming. Jon Chu, the director, had successfully translated that on-set energy to the screen.
He added, “There was nothing like it to feel that sort of warmth and connection to everyone.”
Ethan has often spoken openly about his fellow actors. Last year, he shared his thoughts on watching Ariana—whom he started dating while filming—play the part of Glinda the Good Witch.
He described her as hilarious and a “comedy genius” during an appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show last November, adding that she’s fantastic in the movie.
He added, “I can’t wait for people to see the takes that didn’t make it in.”
But Ethan had praise for all of the Wicked cast, too.
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve seen a lot of adaptations, and let me tell you, the cast in this film is phenomenal. Cynthia and Ari really dig deep and bring so much nuance to their characters. The stage actresses who’ve played these roles before are truly gifted, but film allows you to get so close to the performances – you really feel everything on a different level.
I was so excited to see all the stars arrive at the New York premiere of Wicked: For Good! I’ve been following the movie closely, and it was amazing to see how everyone dressed for the big night. I can’t wait to share what everyone wore on the red carpet!
