The season three premiere of Euphoria honored the memories of Eric Dane, Angus Cloud, and producer Kevin Turen, who have all passed away.
After four years of anticipation and with fans eagerly awaiting their return, the new season of Euphoria premiered with a heartfelt tribute to those who have passed away.
The episode, titled “Ándale,” opens with a tribute to Dane, the actor who played Elordi’s father, Cal, in the show.
The show also honored Cloud, whose death was previously acknowledged in 2023 with a memorial card shown at the start of the first and second seasons.
As a fan, it was really touching to see that even after the credits finished, the show included special tributes to honor the three people from the cast and crew we lost. It felt like a really respectful and heartfelt way to remember them.
It’s been four years since Euphoria season 2. Sadly, Angus Cloud, who played the popular character Fezco in the first two seasons, passed away in 2023 at the age of 25 due to an accidental drug overdose involving fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine, and other substances.

Hearing about Cloud’s passing hit me hard, and I’ve been reflecting on how lucky I was to have known him. He wasn’t just a colleague; he felt like family. I’ll always remember his incredibly warm eyes, that bright, genuine smile, and honestly, just how infectious his laugh was. He truly lit up a room.
People often say someone ‘could light up a room,’ but he truly did – better than anyone I’ve ever known. That’s how I want to remember him.
Though fans weren’t sure how the show would address Lexi’s character, Cloud’s passing, the season three premiere clarifies that Fez is in prison, facing a 30-year sentence.
Levinson explained to Variety how he worked Fez into the story after Cloud’s passing. He realized that through phone conversations within the show, he could still feature the character, stating, “If I couldn’t keep him alive in life, then maybe within this show I could keep him alive.”
He also mentioned that Cloud would find his recent storyline hilarious, adding, “I think he’d really enjoy it.”
Turen, an executive producer for shows like Euphoria and The Idol, passed away in 2023 due to heart problems. Specifically, he suffered from an enlarged heart and sudden cardiac failure.
HBO told the LA Times that Turen was a gifted producer and a wonderful person to work with, and that he would be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.
Marvin Turin has worked closely with Sam Levinson on projects like Euphoria, The Idol, and Malcolm and Marie. He’s also produced films including Pearl, MaXXXine, and Hurry Up Tomorrow.
Dane passed away earlier this year after a battle with ALS, a motor neuron disease. This came less than a year after he publicly shared his diagnosis.
When Eric battled ALS, his team shared that he dedicated himself to raising awareness and funding research, hoping to help others facing the disease.
We are heartbroken by his loss and will cherish his memory forever. Eric truly loved his fans and was incredibly thankful for all their support. His family asks that you respect their privacy as they grieve.
Viewers of Euphoria were aware a tribute to the three cast and crew members who had passed away would be included, as director Sam Levinson had mentioned it at the show’s premiere.
According to Levinson (as reported by Deadline), the delay between seasons 2 and 3 wasn’t just due to things like the strikes and busy actors’ schedules. The biggest challenge was figuring out how to appropriately honor those who had passed away.
He continued, sharing how difficult it was when Angus passed away. He loved Angus very much and did everything he could to help him overcome his addiction. In 2023, the year Angus died, over 73,000 Americans lost their lives to fentanyl overdoses. That year taught him a lot, but most importantly, he came to believe that acknowledging death is what truly makes life meaningful.
Don’t take life for granted. It’s something truly amazing, a precious gift, and a deep blessing that deserves our appreciation.
