Euphoria Season 3 Teases Death of Main Character With Cliffhanger

Warning: spoilers for Euphoria season three, episode five ahead.

One East Highland High School alum’s story could be coming to a tragic end.

In the fifth episode of Euphoria season three, Rosalía’s character, Magick, persuaded Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje’s Alamo Brown that Zendaya’s Rue Bennett couldn’t be trusted. Now, Alamo Brown might be planning to kill Rue.

In case you missed it, Magick unexpectedly entered Alamo’s office at the Silver Slipper carrying baggies of cocaine. Rue, who had agreed to work with the DEA to avoid jail time for her own drug dealing, had previously hidden the drugs in Alamo’s locker and blamed her for it.

Magick shouted, “Rue definitely did this, I know it! You can’t trust her. She’s trying to ruin my life, and that means she’s coming after you too. Someone is setting me up.”

Everything started to make sense to Alamo. While Rue wasn’t aware that Laurie (Martha Kelly) had robbed him earlier—she’d actually thought Faye (Chloe Cherry) was the driver—Alamo believed Rue must have been involved, given her ties to his enemy.

Okay, so like, it totally broke my heart when Alamo just showed up at Maddy and Rue’s dinner. It was so unexpected! And then he started talking about loyalty… honestly, it was a really intense moment, and I’ve been thinking about it ever since. It just felt so important to the whole story, you know?

Meeting Maddy for the first time, he emphasized the importance of valuing employees. ‘You need to understand the people on your team,’ he explained, ‘otherwise you won’t know who’s helping and who might be working against you.’

He informed Rue that Marshawn Lynch and Bishop were waiting outside with a car to take her somewhere. They drove with her to the desert, and once there, she was forced to dig a hole so deep it reached her throat.

Once she complied, G and Bishop started piling dirt on her, quickly burying her up to the neck. Distressed, she asked them, “I have no idea what I did to deserve this, but this is going way too far. I can’t believe anyone would even think of doing something like this.”

Alamo seemed to be getting ready for a major event in the horse stables. Before starting to work with a mallet, he spoke to his horse, saying, “You and I understand trust, don’t we? We really do.”

He went on, saying that some people simply aren’t worthy of trust or affection. They don’t earn either one.

Rue desperately begged for her life as Alamo raced toward her on horseback, swinging a mallet. “Please, don’t!” she screamed, as the mallet narrowly missed her head. “Please, no!”

While everyone wonders what will happen to Rue in season three of Euphoria, here are some other TV characters who had shocking departures from their shows.

Bridget Regan, who plays Monica Stevens on The Rookie, revealed her character has a history of surviving dangerous situations. “She’s dodged assassination attempts, served time in prison, and even survived being thrown into a woodchipper,” Regan told TV Insider, reflecting on Monica’s four seasons on the show.

Regan said she wasn’t shocked when the attorney’s character was killed off in an April 2026 episode. “It felt right,” she explained. “She’d been on the show for four incredible years, and I’m just thankful for the experience.”

I’m absolutely devastated! She blew everyone away on Dancing With the Stars, then completely killed it as Velma Kelly in Chicago on Broadway – she’s a star! But now she’s saying season five of that Hulu show will be her last? She’s moving on to new things, which is amazing for her career, of course, but honestly, it feels like a personal loss! I was so invested in watching her, and now… it’s just not going to be the same.

Samira Mohan is leaving the show The Pitt. According to Variety, actress Supriya Ganesh will also not be back for the third season of the HBO Max drama.

Fans aren’t surprised by the character’s departure, as it’s been established that Ganesh was planning to move to a new hospital for a residency program.

In a March 2026 episode, the TV show said farewell to Director Leon Vance, portrayed by Rocky Carroll, after 18 years with the character who first appeared in season five. The 500th episode featured Vance being killed in a shootout with a dishonest agent, and he was then reunited with the late Chief Medical Examiner Donald “Ducky” Mallard (played by Adam Campbell) in heaven.

Fans were surprised in 2025 to learn that Mehcad Brooks was leaving the NBC crime show before its 25th season.

Brooks, who joined the show in 2022, portrayed Detective Jalen Shaw for three seasons.

After almost 20 years playing Dr. Owen Hunt and Dr. Teddy Altman on the medical drama, Kevin McKidd and Kim Raver have announced they are leaving the show. Their last episode will be the season 22 finale on May 7, 2026, surprising many fans.

Jenna Lyons has confirmed she won’t be back for season 16 of The Real Housewives of New York City.

Confirming the speculation, the former J. Crew Creative Director announced on Instagram on November 21st that she would be joining season 16 of RHONY as a ‘friend of.’ She explained that because she wasn’t comfortable sharing her personal life on camera, they agreed this role was a good fit.

The fashion icon, who started on the Bravo show in 2022 for its fourteenth season, realized she didn’t want to be just a supporting player.

After careful consideration, I’ve decided not to return to the show,” she explained. “I’d be the oldest and only openly gay woman there, and I think it’s a chance for something fresh to happen.

In July 2025, the Bravo star, currently going through a difficult divorce with Brittany Cartwright, explained that his priorities are getting sober, improving his mental health, and being a good coparent. He said taking this time to focus on himself is essential, particularly for the sake of his son, Cruz.

Several cast members from Saturday Night Live recently announced they won’t be back for the show’s 51st season, with the announcements happening within a short period of time.

Longfellow and Walker each spent three seasons on SNL while Wakim exited after just one season.

Following the departures of Longfellow, Walker, and Wakim from Saturday Night Live, two more popular cast members, Gardner and Nwodim, announced they wouldn’t be back for the show’s 51st season. Gardner had been with the show for eight seasons, and Nwodim for seven.

Sofia Mattsson finished her role on the soap opera after seven years of playing Sasha Gilmore in the summer of 2025. Her character moved to Paris as part of the storyline.

Tracy Ifeachor, who starred in the popular HBO Max series The Pitt, decided to leave after its successful first season.

The actress shared on Instagram on July 10th how honored she was to play Dr. Heather Collins in what she called a truly special season of the show. She also thanked viewers for watching, supporting the first season, and sharing their personal stories with her.

Even though fans likely expected Joel Miller, played by Pedro Pascal, to die – his fate in April 2025 closely mirrored the events of The Last of Us Part II, the video game the second season of The Last of Us is based on – the sudden and violent way his character died still came as a shock.

Pascal, known for dying in roles on shows like Game of Thrones and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, wasn’t surprised by his character’s fate. He jokingly told Entertainment Weekly, “I’m used to dying – I actually enjoy it!”

Following what he called a “wild adventure,” Peter Krause finished his run as Captain Bobby Nash on the drama series 9-1-1 with an episode airing in April 2025.

According to a statement to the Hollywood Reporter, the character Bobby Nash was intentionally created to make a powerful sacrifice. Creator Dick Wolf explained that first responders routinely put themselves in danger to save others, and Bobby Nash’s storyline was designed to pay tribute to their bravery.

The decision to kill off a popular, yet troubled, firefighter was definitely controversial, showrunner Tim Minear told Variety. However, he explained that after eight seasons, it was necessary for the show to have real consequences and keep the storylines engaging—someone had to die to raise the stakes.

Summer just got a little less fun.

In June 2025, Paige DeSorbo revealed she was leaving the Bravo series after being on the show for seven seasons.

After sharing seven summers with you all, I’m incredibly thankful for the memories, the support, and all the amazing experiences this journey has given me,” the Giggly Squad podcast host announced on Instagram. “However, it’s time to move on to new things, just as with every ending – even those that come from mistakes.

The popular Netflix show won’t have the French actress in its fifth season, which is set to come out in April 2025.

In an Instagram post on April 23rd, the actress announced she’s leaving Emily in Paris. She shared photos with her former co-stars and described her time on the show as a wonderful experience full of growth, creativity, and cherished memories.

Before the third season of The Sex Lives of College Girls begins, Reneé Rapp has announced she’s leaving the show.

She shared on social media in July 2023 that the show College Girls brought her to Los Angeles and connected her with many of her closest friends. She added that, after two and a half years, it’s led to meeting all of you and building this wonderful community.

Mindy Kaling, one of the show’s creators, also confirmed that Reneé Rapp is leaving. She shared on Instagram that they’re sad to see Leighton Murray go, but excited to support Rapp’s upcoming music tour and career. Kaling expressed a lot of love for Rapp.

After over a year of speculation, Kevin Costner confirmed in June 2024 that he won’t be back for the fifth and final season of the popular Paramount drama. Rumors had circulated that he unexpectedly left the show after four and a half seasons.

In February 2023, Ellen Pompeo finished her run as Meredith Grey on the ABC drama after 19 seasons as a main cast member.

Pompeo said on The Drew Barrymore Show in December 2022 that she needed to try new things. ‘I’m 53, and my brain feels a little scrambled,’ she explained. ‘I need to challenge myself, you can’t just do the same thing – like The New York Times crossword – every day.’ Despite this, she’s already been back for a guest appearance in May and continues to narrate the show.

But she’s not gone for good. Pompeo still pops in and out of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.

As a huge fan of The Witcher, I was really surprised to hear that Henry Cavill won’t be returning as Geralt after season three. He’s been amazing in the role, but apparently he’s moving on. The good news is they’ve already cast Liam Hemsworth to take over as Geralt starting with season four, and it sounds like he’ll be playing him for the long haul. It’s definitely going to be different, but I’m cautiously optimistic about what Liam will bring to the character.

In an October 2022 Instagram post, Henry Cavill announced that his time playing Geralt of Rivia was coming to an end. He said he would be stepping down from the role for Season 4, putting away his medallion and swords.

Jesse Lee Soffer, an original cast member, left the show in 2022 after playing Detective Jay Halstead for ten seasons.

Everyone involved with the show has poured their heart and soul into making each week’s episode, and it’s been a rewarding experience,” said Jesse Soffer after his last episode aired on October 5th. “I’m incredibly proud of my work as Detective Jay Halstead.

After five seasons, Damian Lewis departed Showtime’s Billions in Oct. 2021.

In August 2021, Emily VanCamp left the TV show The Resident on Fox, meaning she would no longer be playing her role as a doctor.

Madeleine Mantock, who played Macy on the CW’s Charmed reboot, decided to leave the show after three seasons. She announced her departure in 2021, calling the role a wonderful opportunity and expressing her appreciation for the show’s producers, writers, cast, and crew, with whom she greatly enjoyed working.

I’m still reeling from it, honestly. Liz Keen, gone! It was so unfair – she was so close to finally understanding who Red really was, and then Megan Boone left The Blacklist after season eight. They just… killed her off before she could even read the letter! It was devastating. Megan called her time on the show ‘a dream’ in an Instagram post, which is lovely for her, but it doesn’t make up for Liz never getting her answers. I was completely invested in that mystery, and now… it feels like it’ll never be solved.

The second season of Bridgerton didn’t include Rege-Jean Page, who became a fan favorite in the first season of the popular Netflix drama. Fans were disappointed when it was announced in 2021 that he wouldn’t be returning.

He told Vanity Fair that he simply took on a job, completed it, and then did some additional work. ‘That’s all there is to it,’ he said. ‘I wish there was a more exciting story behind it.’

Ruby Rose first appeared as Batwoman (Kate Kane) in a 2018 Arrowverse event and then led the CW’s Batwoman series for one season. This was a historic moment, making her the first openly lesbian superhero to star in her own show. However, Rose announced she was leaving the role just two days after the season one finale aired in 2020. In season two, Javicia Leslie took over the role, playing a new character named Ryan Wilder who would become the new Batwoman.

Later on in season two, Kate got a bit of a face swap and returned played by Wallis Day.

America Ferrera left the show Superstore after its fifth season in 2020, which meant both a change for the characters at Cloud 9 and a loss for the series. Though she appeared in the first couple of episodes of season six due to the pandemic, once the show decided to end after that season, she came back for the final episode to give her character, Amy, and Jonah (Ben Feldman) a satisfying conclusion.

In the final episode of season four of the Syfy show The Magicians, Jason Ralph’s character, Quentin, successfully rescued Eliot (played by Hale Appleman), but died in the process. Although the show regularly features character deaths—it is called The Magicians—Ralph did not reprise his role in the fifth and final season.
