Stephen Amell’s Fox Reboot of ’90s Cult Classic Series Finally Unveils First Look & Release Window

Next year, fans can expect to see Stephen Amell running in slow motion on the beach in a new series. Fox has announced the upcoming show, a reboot featuring Amell as the grown-up son of David Hasselhoff’s famous character, Hobie Buchannon.

Fox has announced its plans for the 2026-27 TV season. While the revival of Baywatch won’t air in the fall of 2026, it’s scheduled to premiere in late January 2027. Several other shows, including new seasons of Memory of a Killer and Murder in a Small Town, and the new series The Interrogator, will also debut later in the season.

Fox is planning a busy 2026-27 television season. Most of their current shows will return (though Going Dutch has been cancelled), and they’ll be adding two new dramas and 17 reality series. To accommodate everything, Fox will start airing dramas on a second night of the week mid-season. This fall, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays will be dedicated to unscripted shows, and one of those nights will likely switch to dramas later in the season.

The Next Generation of Baywatch Lifeguards Gets First Look Image

Fox recently offered a sneak peek at the new cast for the upcoming Baywatch reboot. Michael Thorn, President of Fox Television Network, explained the decision to delay the show’s premiere until 2027, stating, “Baywatch is a really important property for us, and we believe we can position the reboot for strong success.”

Known for his roles in Arrow and Heels, Robbie Amell headlines the Baywatch reboot. According to Thorn, the show is designed to be lighthearted fun, featuring a mix of established TV actors and popular social media personalities. Alongside Amell, the cast includes Shay Mitchell from Pretty Little Liars, Hassie Harrison of Yellowstone, and Jessica Belkin, Thaddeus LaGrone, Noah Beck, Brooks Nader, and Livvy Dunne.

New Baywatch Will Be a Sequel to the Original Show

The new Baywatch series centers on Hobie Buchannon (Amell), the son of the original Mitch Buchannon, who now leads the Baywatch team. His life gets more complicated when his daughter, Charlie Vale (Belkin), arrives wanting to join the family tradition and become a lifeguard.

Rumors about a new version of Baywatch started circulating in 2018, but it wasn’t until five years later that FreemantleMedia officially began working on it. The plan is to revive the popular ’90s series with a first season of 12 episodes, expected in 2025.

The series Baywatch is a collaboration between Fox Entertainment and Fremantle. Matt Nix leads the show as showrunner and executive producer. McG directed the first episode and also serves as an executive producer, alongside Michael Berk, Greg Bonann, Doug Schwartz, Dante Di Loreto, and Mike Horowitz.

Baywatch is slated to premiere on Fox in January 2027.
