Euphoria’s Labrinth Pulls His Music, Says He Was Treated “Like S–t”

Labrinth is detailing hitting a low note while working on Euphoria.

Just before the third season of the HBO show launched, the composer, Timothy Lee McKenzie, used social media to clarify why his music isn’t included this season.

Labrinth shared on Instagram that he removed his music from a project because of dishonesty within the industry. He stated, in a message captured by Deadline, that people in the field will ‘comfortably lie’ yet still consider themselves honest. He confirmed he spoke with HBO and believes they are on good terms.

The composer, age 37, is well-known for the music he created for the show. He explained his departure by saying, “Ultimately, when I work with someone, I want their creative vision to take the lead. However, I also expect to be treated with respect.”

TopMob News has reached out to HBO and show creator Sam Levinson for comment.

Labrinth—the artist behind songs like “All For Us,” “Still Don’t Know My Name,” and “I’m Tired” which have been featured prominently in Euphoria since its first season—has discussed his experience with the show before.

Last March, Labrinth publicly criticized both the HBO show Euphoria and his record label, Columbia Records, in a strongly worded statement.

I was absolutely devastated when I saw his Instagram post on March 12th. He just… announced he was done with everything! Can you believe it? He straight-up said, “I’m done with this industry,” and then… and then he cursed Columbia and *doublecursed Euphoria! It was like a bomb went off. He just said “I’m out. Thank you and good night x.” My heart is broken. I don’t understand how he could just walk away! It feels so personal, like he was talking directly to us, the fans, and saying goodbye. I’m completely gutted.

Labrinth received encouragement from fellow musicians, including Kesha, who wrote a supportive message saying, “Take care of your peace my love. You are loved and supported.”

Labrinth hasn’t revealed the details of his involvement with the HBO series, but he’d previously shared his enthusiasm about being part of the third season. That season also featured music by acclaimed composer Hans Zimmer.

He announced in a July statement to Variety that he was thrilled to be part of the next installment in the Euphoria world. He expressed excitement about collaborating with Hans, a composer he greatly admires, to create something special for the new season.

In his own statement, Hans referred to Labrinth as a “visionary.”

Labrinth’s music has become a key part of the show’s feel, and I’m excited to continue working on it, helping to create the sound for the new season,” said the 68-year-old.

Labrinth found working on the show Euphoria to be a great creative fit, and in 2020, he even won an Emmy for his song “All For Us” as part of the project.

As a creative, you dream of your work resonating with people, but seeing it actually happen is incredible. I was telling Billboard back in 2019 about how a song I originally wrote for my album ended up becoming part of the Euphoria soundtrack – and then actually seeing it featured visually on HBO? It was a total ‘pinch-me’ moment, a real highlight in my career. It’s one of those things you don’t forget!

As a lifestyle expert, I’m absolutely captivated by ‘A Taste for Murder’! This series, set against the stunning backdrop of Capri, beautifully weaves together delicious Italian food and intriguing murder mysteries. But it’s more than just a whodunnit; it really explores how food can bring people together, build a sense of community, and even help heal after a loss. Each episode uses classic Italian dishes as a key element, showing the incredible power food has to connect us.

As a longtime fan, I can tell you season five is unlike anything we’ve seen before. Homelander is completely unhinged and running everything, making decisions on a whim. It’s terrifying! My heart broke seeing Hughie, Mother’s Milk, and Frenchie trapped in that awful ‘Freedom Camp,’ and Annie is desperately trying to fight back, but the odds are stacked against her. We don’t even know where Kimiko is! But then Butcher returns, and he’s got a plan – a dangerous virus that could eliminate all Supes. Honestly, it feels like everything is coming to a head, and this season is going to change the entire world we thought we knew. Get ready, because things are about to get intense.

Oh my god, you guys, this new documentary, Boy Band Confidential, is EVERYTHING. It totally dives into the whole boy band craze from the late 90s and early 2000s, but it’s not just fluff and nostalgia. It’s…intense. It shows how these record labels basically turned these young guys into products, and it gets real about the dark side – like, abuse, addiction, and how they were totally taken advantage of financially. They interviewed so many of the biggest stars, and honestly, it pulls back the curtain on how manufactured all that ‘perfection’ was. It’s heartbreaking to see the cost of all that fame, but it’s SO important. You think you knew the story, but trust me, this reveals everything.
