Every 2025 Stephen King Movie & TV Show Ranked

Stephen King is widely considered one of the most talented storytellers alive today, having captivated and frightened readers for decades with his novels, shorter stories, and collections. Turning his work into movies and TV shows is a long-standing tradition, and many Stephen King adaptations have become iconic parts of popular culture. King’s stories, which span genres like horror, drama, science fiction, and fantasy, lend themselves well to the screen and consistently attract both audiences and acclaimed actors, earning numerous awards in the process.

2025 continued the trend of Stephen King’s stories being adapted for the screen. Several of the year’s most popular horror movies and TV shows were based on his work. While there were at least six King adaptations released, some were more successful and explored different types of horror than others.

6) The Institute

As a big Stephen King fan, I’ve seen a lot of his work adapted for TV, and honestly, it usually works better as a movie. That feels true with The Institute too. It’s a really gripping story about a young boy who suddenly finds himself in this strange place and discovers he has amazing powers—powers the people holding him captive want to use. It’s not a bad show by any means, but compared to some of the other fantastic Stephen King adaptations we’ve gotten recently, The Institute just doesn’t quite measure up.

5) The Running Man

Many Stephen King fans have hoped for a remake of The Running Man, and 2025 finally delivered. The new version stars Glen Powell in the role famously played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1987 film. The story – about a man trying to win money by outrunning assassins on a deadly game show – was already popular, and Powell’s involvement boosted the film’s appeal. While not a perfect movie, The Running Man is still one of the year’s most thrilling blockbusters.

4) The Monkey

Stephen King is famous for his love of horror, and horror films often adapt his stories. His short story, The Monkey, recently became a successful movie. The film centers around a terrifying, cursed toy monkey that causes unexplained, violent deaths. Released in 2025, The Monkey surprised audiences and critics alike, becoming one of the best Stephen King adaptations of the year thanks to its strong cast and skillful storytelling.

3) IT: Welcome To Derry

Pennywise the Clown remains one of Stephen King’s most frightening creations, and the recent IT adaptations have introduced him to a new audience. The series IT: Welcome to Derry expands on the backstory of this terrifying villain, drawing from ideas presented in interludes within King’s original novel. The show quickly gained a reputation as one of the scariest TV series of 2025, delivering plenty of suspense and frightening moments. It’s a well-made show that both honors King’s source material and offers a fresh perspective, making it a standout Stephen King adaptation this year.

2) The Long Walk

Initially, some people thought The Long Walk signaled that filmmakers were running out of good Stephen King stories to adapt. The idea—teen boys forced to walk continuously for days in a bleak future—didn’t sound very promising for a movie. However, the film proved everyone wrong. It exceeded expectations and is now considered not just one of the best films of 2025, but a Stephen King adaptation that’s actually better than the original novel.

1) The Life of Chuck

Stephen King and Mike Flanagan, both famous for their work in horror, teamed up in 2025 for a surprisingly different project. The Life of Chuck is a fantasy drama that tells the story of Charles “Chuck” Krantz backwards, beginning with his death – which also happens at the end of the universe. The film quickly received excellent reviews and is considered one of Mike Flanagan’s best, and it was hailed as the best Stephen King adaptation of 2025.
