Every God in One Piece Revealed So Far, Ranked

From the start, the One Piece manga has featured gods as part of its world-building. But the introduction of Sun God Nika has dramatically increased their importance in the story. Recently, in chapter 1182 of the Elbaph arc, fans finally got to see one of the series’ most eagerly awaited gods.

As gods become increasingly important in the story, it’s a good time to revisit their origins and assess their power based on what we’ve learned so far. Here’s a ranking of the five gods revealed in One Piece, considering various factors that contribute to their significance.

5) Forest God

The Forest God appeared briefly in the Skypiea storyline, but its importance wasn’t understood until the Harley text was discovered. This text suggests the Forest God is the origin of Devil Fruits, fulfilling human wishes by giving them physical form. Unfortunately, people misused this power, weakening the Forest God. The Harley text also describes a time when the Forest God unleashed powerful demons during a past world, hinting that these demons eventually came to dominate humanity.

This fits with what we know about the current storyline, where Imu and his group secretly control things. Many fans believe Imu has the power of the ancient Forest God and is using it selfishly, a connection we also see with the character Rengoku. However, there are still a lot of unanswered questions about Imu, which is why they’re currently considered less powerful than others. But, if Imu truly is the origin of Devil Fruits, their importance could dramatically increase as the story progresses.

4) Earth God

Information about the Earth God is limited, as it only recently appears in the Harley text. There, it’s portrayed as the primary enemy of the Sun God in the First World. According to the text, the Earth God became furious when humans tried to reach the sun and, along with a fiery serpent – often linked to the Red Line – brought devastation to the world.

The story hints at a conflict between the Earth God and the Sun God. Many fans believe Loki represents the Earth God, pointing to his snake-like eyes. The recent chapter reveals Imu was surprised to encounter Nidhog, whom he called a traitor, suggesting Nidhog—previously an enemy of the Sun God—is now an ally. It’s obvious there are still many secrets to uncover, and Loki and the Earth God will likely play increasingly important roles as the story unfolds.

3) Rain/Sea God

The Rain God and Sea God seem very similar, both representing water in the world of One Piece. Recent developments in Chapter 1181, “Zaza,” suggest they might actually be the same being. It appears people above the rain clouds see Zaza as the Rain God, while those below view the resulting seas as the domain of the Sea God.

Honestly, I’m getting so hyped about the Rain God! It’s become a really big deal lately, especially after we found out even the Celestial Dragons are terrified of it – second only to the Sun God and the D Clan! Controlling the seas is huge, and it makes the Rain God a potential game-changer in the final battle against Imu and his crew. The fact that either Monkey D. Dragon or Shirahoshi – representing rain and sea, naturally – could be connected to it just makes it even more important than everything else we’ve seen so far. I think this entity is going to be central to what happens next!

2) Abyss God

Imu is incredibly powerful, often seen as a godlike being, but one who represents darkness and opposition. He’s made people question the line between good and evil, which is striking considering he’s depicted as both a god and a devil. His magic and power are immense, and he can even fundamentally change living creatures with his abilities. He truly embodies the darkness of the abyss.

It’s becoming more and more apparent that Imu, who is both the Abyss God and the ruler sitting on the Empty Throne, might have existed since the very beginning of the One Piece world. As the main villain of the upcoming final conflict and currently the strongest character we know, Imu (or the Abyss God) is clearly incredibly important, and that importance will likely only increase as the story continues.

1) Sun God

Honestly, ever since Luffy unlocked Gear Fifth and became the Sun God Nika, that whole concept has become huge in One Piece! What’s really fascinating is that he’s the only god people actually acknowledge for both the good and bad sides of being divine – the giants especially see him that way, because their legends talk about the Sun God as one of the very first beings. But here’s where it gets mind-blowing: a lot of fans, myself included, think the Sun God isn’t a traditional god at all, but someone who became one. The ancient Harley text talks about humans actually reaching the sun and gaining godhood, and the Japanese version of the story keeps putting ‘Sun God’ in quotation marks, like it’s not a given. It all points to the idea that the Sun God started as a person, which is just incredible!

It’s become clear that the Sun God is a powerful figure of freedom, capable of altering reality itself. This incredible ability, along with his representation of hope, suggests he’ll usher in a new era of liberation and unity for the world and its people. As Luffy increasingly takes on the role of this Sun God, and the story points towards him leading the final battle against Imu and his forces, it’s undeniable that the Sun God is currently the most important figure in One Piece, and likely will remain so.
