Every Halloween Episode of The Big Bang Theory, Ranked From Worst to Best

Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory isn’t exactly the Halloween type. He’s famously strict about his schedule and doesn’t like surprises or loud noises, so you’d think he’d hate handing out candy, dressing up, or really participating at all. It’s safe to say Halloween wasn’t really his thing.

Despite being known for their unconventional behavior, Sheldon and his friends actually celebrated Halloween in four different episodes throughout the 12 seasons of The Big Bang Theory. While all the Halloween episodes were enjoyable, it’s hard to pick a clear favorite.

4) “The Good Guy Fluctuation”

This Halloween episode from the fifth season featured two storylines. One focused on Sheldon attempting to get back at his friends for playing a prank on him. While this revenge plot was decent, it didn’t quite reach the comedic heights of “The Imitation Perturbation,” another episode where Sheldon seeks revenge after being upset.

The storyline where Leonard kisses someone who isn’t his girlfriend is a major source of controversy in “The Good Guy Fluctuation,” a memorable episode of The Big Bang Theory. Many viewers find Leonard’s actions unlike his usual personality, which makes this part of the episode uncomfortable and weakens it overall.

3) “The Holographic Excitation”

The Halloween episode in Season 6 mostly focused on Howard, rather than Sheldon. Since Howard is one of the show’s funniest characters, it was a good idea to build a holiday story around him on The Big Bang Theory.

This episode could have easily featured Sheldon instead of Howard without significantly changing the story. The plot – someone obliviously rambling about a niche topic while others are bored – is something we’ve seen Sheldon do many times before. While the episode is still somewhat funny, it feels a little stale because the storyline isn’t new.

2) “The Middle Earth Paradigm”

As a big fan of The Big Bang Theory, I always recommend checking out “The Middle Earth Paradigm.” It’s their very first Halloween episode, and it’s a really special one, especially if you’re rooting for Leonard and Penny. That’s where they finally share their first kiss – at Penny’s Halloween party, no less! It’s made even better because Leonard has a bit of a frustrating encounter with Penny’s ex right before it happens. Definitely a memorable episode!

“The Middle Earth Paradigm” is a standout episode, with Sheldon delivering some of his most hilarious moments – including a wonderfully bizarre Halloween costume. Both storylines in this episode perfectly capture the nerdy humor that made The Big Bang Theory so popular, solidifying its place as one of the show’s funniest.

1) “The Imitation Perturbation”

The last Halloween episode is the show’s funniest. Howard hilariously impersonates Sheldon, doing such a good job that it bothers Sheldon. In response, Sheldon and Amy dress up as Howard and Bernadette – and Amy’s impression of Bernadette is especially funny because it’s incredibly accurate.

You know, this episode of The Big Bang Theory really got to me. It was genuinely funny, of course, but it also had a surprising amount of heart. It all starts with Sheldon being a bit sensitive, and then the Halloween costumes lead to this really touching moment between him and Bernadette. He realizes he understands what it’s like to feel overlooked, because he was so young when he started high school. Honestly, that scene is what makes the episode so memorable – it’s funny, but it also feels really real and sweet.
