As we approach the end of April 2026, Weekly Shonen Jump has already cancelled four of its popular manga series, which is disappointing for fans. While it’s normal for some series to end naturally and others to be replaced with new ones, these cancellations are still a loss. Last year, Shonen Jump cancelled ten series, and three others finished their runs. It looks like 2026 will follow a similar pattern.
Several popular manga series in Shonen Jump are nearing their conclusions, with their final storylines currently unfolding. Both Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo and Chainsaw Man have recently finished, signaling the end of their run in the magazine. This year has also seen the cancellation of four newer series, three of which debuted in Fall 2025. While these cancellations weren’t entirely unexpected, it’s disappointing that a few of these series didn’t have more time to develop and gain an audience.
4) Gonron Egg

The manga Gonron Egg had a promising start, with a unique premise – a child finding a demon egg and teaming up with the creature inside to fight against humans enslaved by demons. Despite this intriguing concept and solid artwork, the series was cancelled by Shonen Jump after only 21 chapters and five months. While its short run is disappointing, the story itself didn’t quite live up to its potential. Though it’s a shame it didn’t get to finish, the cancellation isn’t entirely unexpected considering its flaws and how readers responded.
3) Hero Girl and Demon Lord Call It Quits

The manga Hero Girl and Demon Lord Call It Quits by Matsuri Hatsubina has been cancelled. While the comedy series was enjoyable, it felt somewhat directionless and leaned too heavily into everyday life scenarios. The story’s premise – a demon lord and heroine becoming roommates after their battle ends – was a fresh take on familiar tropes, and the series had potential. Unfortunately, it didn’t fully develop its interesting ideas and took too long to delve into the characters and world. It had recently started to improve, which makes the cancellation even more frustrating, though 21 chapters is a decent run.
2) The Mage Next Door

Hideaki Nabe’s The Mage Next Door was unfortunately cancelled after 21 chapters, like several other series in Fall 2025. However, it provided a more satisfying conclusion than Gonron Egg. The story centers around a very unmotivated mage who uses everyday magic – the kind usually used for simple tasks – to protect people and fight evil in the human world. While the premise is amusing, the series didn’t quite live up to its potential during its 21 episodes. It was the strongest of the three cancelled Fall 2025 series, making its cancellation particularly disappointing. It felt like the story could have really blossomed with more time, and it’s a shame we won’t see where it could have gone. Still, another cancelled series from 2026 showed even more promise.
1) Otr of the Flame

Yuki Kawaguchi’s Otr of the Flame launched in Shonen Jump in May 2025, but ended after 34 chapters this January. The story takes place in a world gripped by a never-ending winter and centers on a cook who dreams of becoming a warrior – a chance he gets when enemies appear at his home. While the series had a promising premise, its story didn’t quite live up to its potential due to issues with pacing and how it was executed. This is a common problem for short-lived Shonen Jump series, but Otr of the Flame‘s beautiful artwork makes its cancellation particularly disappointing. It’s a shame it didn’t succeed, especially as it was Shonen Jump‘s first cancellation of the year. With a little more focus, Otr of the Flame could have been a truly exciting series.
