Every MCU Character That’s Basically Immortal

The Marvel Cinematic Universe boasts a wide range of incredibly powerful characters, some exceeding even fundamental forces like entropy. The MCU’s success stems from bringing Marvel Comics characters to life in popular movies and TV shows. A key element of this interconnected universe is establishing a power ranking, clearly differentiating the strength of various characters. While abilities differ, immortality stands out as one of the most impressive powers possessed by several heroes and villains within the MCU.

Just because a Marvel Cinematic Universe character is immortal doesn’t automatically make them too powerful. How their story unfolds is what really matters. For some, living forever is more of a burden than a gift, while for others, it’s just a natural part of who they are or a result of their unique powers. There aren’t many truly immortal characters in the MCU, and they’re all quite different in terms of their strength, where they come from, and their personalities.

8) Wonder Man

It’s still unclear exactly how strong Wonder Man is compared to other heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but his recent introduction quickly proved he’s incredibly resilient. Like his comic book counterpart, Wonder Man is immortal, making him one of the most durable characters in the MCU. While his immortality has been portrayed as a burden in some comics, he’s now established as a character with virtually limitless lifespan within the franchise.

7) Thor

As a huge Marvel fan, I’ve always loved watching Thor’s journey. He started as this kind of cocky Asgardian prince, but he’s really become one of Earth’s greatest heroes. It’s cool how his Asgardian body basically makes him immortal, though it’s not quite that simple. He’s incredibly durable, but definitely not invincible – a strong enough villain could still take him down. And after Odin died, we started to see there might be other weaknesses with Asgardians too. Still, compared to most characters in the MCU, Thor could potentially live for a ridiculously long time.

6) Hulk

Everyone knows the Hulk is incredibly powerful in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While the movies haven’t explicitly stated it, they’ve hinted at a concept well-known from the comics: that the Hulk is essentially an immortal, god-like being fueled by Bruce Banner’s rage. The MCU hasn’t confirmed this directly, but the Hulk’s incredible durability suggests it might be true. If the movies continue to follow the comics, the Hulk could become another one of the MCU’s immortal characters.

5) Loki

Loki has become a fan favorite in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, transforming from a villain into a hero. Despite dying several times on screen, he appears to be virtually immortal, similar to his adopted brother Thor. His unique physiology grants him an incredibly long life, and his recent transformation into the MCU’s God of Stories has only solidified his enduring presence in the Marvel Universe.

4) Khonshu (& the Ennead)

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has featured several gods, and Khonshu, an Egyptian deity, stands out. Like other immortal beings in the MCU, Khonshu appears even in a supporting role. Because he’s part of the Ennead – a group of Egyptian gods – the rest of them should also be considered immortal characters, given their long lives and divine nature within the MCU’s stories.

3) Arishem

Arishem is a remarkably powerful villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He first appeared in the movie Eternals in 2021, and while the film ended on a cliffhanger involving him, his story hasn’t been developed much yet. Still, as one of the oldest and seemingly immortal beings in the MCU, Arishem is a truly formidable antagonist.

2) Galactus

Galactus is one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and he’s incredibly old. We learn in The Fantastic Four: First Steps that he existed even before the universe itself, having lived for billions of years after gaining immense cosmic power. As ‘The Devourer of Worlds,’ he’s an unstoppable and essentially immortal danger to everything in the MCU.

1) Dormammu

Dormammu, as a being from another dimension, isn’t limited by the normal rules of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He’s incredibly powerful and naturally immortal, and because his home dimension exists outside of time, he can outlive anyone or anything in the MCU. However, even though he’s immortal, Dormammu has been defeated, proving that even the most powerful villains aren’t invincible.
