Every MCU Weapon Used to Fight The Hulk, Ranked by Power

As a huge Marvel fan, I’ve always felt they’ve had a tricky situation with the Hulk. He’s just *so* powerful it’s almost a problem! You can tell they’re aware of it too, which is why they keep finding ways to write him out of stories. Remember how he just flew off at the end of *Age of Ultron*? They needed a reason to keep him from solving every problem with brute force! Then, popping him up on another planet in *Ragnarok* felt like more of the same. Even his fight with Thanos in *Infinity War* seemed designed to avoid actually dealing with how easily he *could* have won. It’s like they’re constantly trying to manage a character who’s almost *too* strong.

Even though some characters have tried to sideline the Hulk, he’s still been a significant presence in the MCU, often facing threats from those who want to defeat him. He’s battled many enemies with different weapons, but few have posed a real challenge, and only one truly matched his power. Interestingly, the specialized Helicarrier cell built to contain the Hulk was never actually used on him. If it had been, it likely wouldn’t have worked very well, making it a questionable solution.

10) Black Ops Team

Putting aside the danger faced by the soldiers involved, this is arguably the weakest scene featuring the Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The first clear display of his power happens in *The Incredible Hulk* when the military attempts to capture Bruce Banner in Brazil at night. Predictably, sending in soldiers with standard weapons against the Hulk is a disastrous plan – it’s like trying to stop a bowling ball with a piece of paper. While the Hulk easily defeats them, and the soldiers serve mainly to justify escalating the military’s weaponry, director Louis Leterrier stages the scene with a bit of flair.

9) Chitauri Blasters

As a huge movie fan, I always found the Chitauri’s weapons in *The Avengers* a little underwhelming. They’re basically giant Super Soakers, and while they *do* manage to get the Hulk’s attention – which is saying something! – it’s only long enough for him to smash whoever fired at him. Honestly, they’re probably the least effective weapons in the whole Battle of New York; I don’t even remember them hurting anyone besides briefly annoying the Hulk!

8) Stark Sonic Cannons

When soldiers couldn’t stop the Hulk, the government turned to Tony Stark for help. He provided new sonic weapons that surprisingly worked, temporarily immobilizing the Hulk with focused sound waves. However, the Hulk quickly adapted. He destroyed one weapon using nearby rubble and then broke free from the other, escaping capture. While effective in theory, the weapons ultimately failed to contain him.

7) F-35 Lightning II

Once the Hulk transforms on the SHIELD helicarrier, it’s nearly impossible to contain him. Though Thor tries to subdue him, other forces attempt to stop the Hulk as well. An F-35 fighter jet fires on the Hulk while he’s still inside the helicarrier, but mostly succeeds in enraging him further. As Marvel fans know, this makes the Hulk even stronger, and he proves it by jumping onto the jet and ripping it apart. It was brave to even try, but ultimately the jet is destroyed.

6) Leviathans

Leviathans are monstrous creatures controlled by Loki’s Chitauri army and are incredibly powerful. However, as Marvel fans know, the Hulk is even stronger – he can take them down with a single hit! Unlike other Chitauri weapons, Leviathans aren’t just for destruction; they also carry troops across the battlefield, causing widespread damage to Manhattan. While they’re effective fighters, the Hulk proves to be their biggest weakness, knocking one out completely and another to the ground with Thor’s assistance.

5) Fenris

Hela uses several weapons to try and destroy Asgard, but her most powerful is Fenris, the massive wolf from *Thor: Ragnarok*. Fenris isn’t just strong because of its size; it easily withstands an attack from Valkyrie’s ship. This creature then engages in a prolonged battle with the Hulk – one of the hero’s longest fights in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. The fight rages from the rainbow bridge down into the waters surrounding Asgard, ultimately ending with the Hulk throwing Fenris into space. However, the outcome could easily have been reversed.

4) Mjolnir

As a huge MCU fan, I’ve noticed that Thor and the Hulk really seem to enjoy a good brawl! They went at it the moment they met in *The Avengers*, which was pretty epic. But honestly, while Mjolnir is powerful, it’s not the most common weapon used against the Hulk, and that’s something I’ve always found interesting.

Although Thor’s powerful hammer sent Hulk flying with a strong uppercut, it didn’t actually hurt him. Hulk quickly recovered and continued the fight, even trying to choke Thor with the hammer itself. However, even that didn’t bother Hulk for long, as he soon became distracted by an approaching fighter jet.

3) Sakaaran War Hammer

What makes the fight between Thor and Hulk unique is that Hulk initially wields the Sakaaran War Hammer, seen in *Thor: Ragnarok*. Thor quickly takes the hammer and begins to demonstrate why he might be the strongest Avenger. He lands several powerful blows on Hulk with it, putting Hulk in a vulnerable position and nearly winning the fight. Although the Grandmaster interrupts, the hammer clearly has a significant impact on Hulk during its short use.

2) Wanda’s Chaos Magic

In *Avengers: Age of Ultron*, a key scene takes place in South Africa where Wanda Maximoff uses her powers to deeply disturb the Avengers, forcing them to confront their worst fears and leaving them incapacitated. To help them escape, she cleverly triggers one of the Hulk’s biggest outbursts in the Marvel Cinematic Universe by manipulating Bruce Banner. While under her influence, the Hulk rampages through Johannesburg, causing extensive destruction to buildings and the surrounding area.

It would have been number one, but there’s a moment where the Hulk briefly seems to resist the magic’s effects, regaining some awareness despite being in a daze. Plus, the next entry on this list is even more impressive.

1) Hulkbuster Armor

Marvel fans will remember the Hulkbuster armor was built by Tony Stark as a last resort – something to use only in the most extreme emergencies. And when he *does* need it, the armor generally works, allowing Iron Man to fight the Hulk effectively. However, using the Hulkbuster often leads to significant collateral damage and harms the Avengers’ public image.

Ultimately, the Hulkbuster armor delivers the hit that finally snaps Hulk out of his rage and brings him back down to Earth. While many weapons in the Marvel Cinematic Universe have temporarily stunned Hulk, only Tony Stark’s Hulkbuster armor has definitively ended a fight and emerged victorious (excluding the overwhelming defeat Thanos inflicted in Avengers: Infinity War).
