Every Member of Superman’s DCU Family Tree Confirmed

The new DC Universe is still getting started, but it’s already building out Superman’s family history. The 2025 film Superman kicked off a new movie timeline under James Gunn and Peter Safran, and introduced not only David Corenswet as Superman, but also several members of his family. This focus on family will continue in the upcoming Supergirl movie, which will follow the hero briefly seen at the end of Superman.

Although the DCU is just getting started, Superman already has strong ties to many of its characters. The first two DCU movies focus on Kryptonian characters, which puts Superman’s family at the heart of the universe and makes understanding his lineage crucial. Here’s a rundown of every member of Superman’s family confirmed so far in the DCU.

9) Kal-El (Superman) – David Corenswet

The new Superman movie marks the beginning of the DC Universe, and this version of the character is already playing a major role. As DC’s most famous hero, Superman isn’t just the first hero we see – he’s the key to understanding the entire story the DCU is building. He stands out even among his fellow heroes, being both the last survivor of Krypton and Earth’s greatest protector. He’s expected to be a central figure for the franchise, shaping how fans understand the larger story and all the other heroes that will be introduced.

8) Jor-El (Father) – Bradley Cooper

Jor-El is a very powerful Kryptonian character in DC Comics, and while he’s Superman’s biological father, he doesn’t often have a major role in the Superman films. Like many versions of the Superman story, Jor-El dies when his home planet, Krypton, is destroyed, but he sends a final message with his son, Kal-El, as the planet breaks apart. In the 2025 film Superman, Bradley Cooper portrays Jor-El as a character with a complicated sense of right and wrong, which ultimately influences some tough decisions made by his son.

7) Lara (Mother) – Angela Sarafyan

Kal-El, also known as Superman, has another biological parent, Lara Lor-Van, portrayed by Angela Sarafyan. She appears with her husband, Jor-El, in a recorded message – the only connection Superman has to his Kryptonian family. Like Jor-El, Lara wants her son to rebuild Krypton on Earth, but Superman chooses to reject this wish and forge his own path, distancing himself from his Kryptonian roots. Despite her limited screen time in the film Superman, Lara is a crucial figure in shaping Kal-El’s identity, just as important as her husband.

6) Ma Kent (Adoptive Mother) – Neva Howell

Martha Kent, often called “Ma” Kent, is a hugely important figure in Superman’s story. She’s the woman who raised Clark after he came to Earth, and though she won’t be a major character in the 2025 film, she played a vital role in shaping him into the hero he is. Neva Howell portrays Ma Kent in the DC Universe.

5) Pa Kent (Adoptive Father) – Pruitt Taylor Vince

Jonathan “Pa” Kent is an important supporting character in Superman’s story, acting as the father who raises Clark in Kansas. More than just providing a home, Pa Kent teaches Clark a strong moral compass, shaping him into the hero the world needs. While Pruitt Taylor Vince portrayed Pa Kent in the movie Superman, his role in the DC Universe has been small but deeply meaningful, especially in influencing Clark’s life.

4) Kara Zor-El (Cousin) – Milly Alcock

Milly Alcock appears as Supergirl in Superman, but her story will be expanded upon soon. The Supergirl trailer gives a better sense of her personality and hints at a compelling story that will reveal more about Kryptonian culture. As Superman’s cousin, Kara Zor-El is one of the few remaining members of her family, and she’s poised to become a major and powerful hero within the DC Universe.

3) Zor-El (Uncle) – David Krumholtz

David Krumholtz is joining the cast of Supergirl as Zor-El, Kara’s father. Because Kara is Superman’s cousin, this makes Zor-El Superman’s uncle, officially adding him to the DC Universe’s family tree. While details about the character are still limited, Krumholtz’s casting confirms Zor-El as a part of the established DC Universe canon.

2) Alura In-Ze (Aunt) – Emily Beecham

Emily Beecham will join David Krumholtz in the cast of Supergirl, playing Alura In-Ze. Alura is Kara Zor-El’s mother and also the aunt of Kal-El. While it’s not yet known how big her role will be, Emily Beecham is officially part of the DC Universe cast.

1) Krypto (Dog/Cousin Once Removed)

When Krypto the Superdog appeared in stories with Superman, it opened the door for other superhero pets in the DC Universe. Beyond being a powerful character, Krypto became a true member of Superman’s family. For Kara, and many dog lovers, he’s like a child – essentially making him Superman’s cousin. Whether you focus on the exact family ties, it’s clear Krypto is an important part of the Superman family within the DC Universe.
