2025 was a huge year for superhero fans, with lots of new movies and shows featuring popular characters. Marvel continued to expand its universe with several releases, introducing new heroes to the mix. Meanwhile, DC Studios launched a fresh start with James Gunn’s Superman film, beginning a brand new series of movies. Between the ongoing Marvel Cinematic Universe and the debut of the new DC Universe, audiences saw a wealth of new heroes throughout the year.
2025 was a fantastic year for superhero movies, and fans weren’t let down. Big releases like Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps strengthened the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Meanwhile, Superman kicked off a new era for DC with a team-up of heroes. Plus, Daredevil: Born Again introduced a new vigilante to the MCU, even if the show didn’t last long. Overall, the many Marvel and DC heroes we saw in 2025 had a huge range of different powers.
10) White Tiger

In 2025, the Marvel Cinematic Universe introduced only one new hero: White Tiger, who appeared in Daredevil: Born Again. Empowered by a magical amulet, White Tiger fought crime as a vigilante in New York City but was ultimately killed. While a proficient fighter capable of handling several opponents, his powers weren’t fully developed on screen. Overall, White Tiger proved to be the least impactful of the new heroes debuting in 2025.
9) Reed Richards / Mister Fantastic

Pedro Pascal’s character, Reed Richards, is set to be a key player in the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but he hasn’t yet proven himself as one of its strongest heroes. While The Fantastic Four: First Steps showcases his intelligence, his powers weren’t very impactful in the film. Despite being the team leader, Reed seemed to be the least powerful member of the Fantastic Four, as his stretching abilities weren’t very effective against Galactus. There’s potential for Reed Richards to become incredibly powerful, but right now, he’s one of the weaker new heroes introduced for 2025.
8) Ben Grimm / The Thing

I’ve always been a fan of The Thing, and I was so glad to see him brought into the MCU! What’s really cool is that they stayed true to the character – he’s still that former astronaut, Ben Grimm, turned into a super-strong, rock-skinned powerhouse. He’s always been the muscle of the Fantastic Four, and that’s still true here. Honestly, while he’s incredibly strong and durable, when you stack him up against some of the other heroes we’re seeing in movies now, he doesn’t quite reach that same level of power. But that’s okay! He’s a fantastic character, and his strength is definitely a huge asset, even if he’s not the most powerful out there.
7) Johnny Storm / The Human Torch

The film Fantastic Four: First Steps also introduced Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, the Human Torch. While Johnny’s fire powers are famous, this movie gave the character more depth than previous versions. First Steps showed Johnny skillfully controlling his flames – like when he quickly put out an apartment fire – and highlighted his intelligence by having him learn an alien language to understand a message from the Silver Surfer. Because of these abilities, he currently seems more powerful than some of his teammates.
6) Hawkgirl

Despite appearing to be a strong hero on paper, Hawkgirl didn’t quite live up to expectations in Superman. The movie showed us her basic powers, but didn’t develop her character very much. She had a small part in the battle against Ultraman and wasn’t as helpful as the other members of the Justice Gang, making her the weakest of the new heroes introduced in the first DCU movie. While future appearances will likely showcase her full potential, in 2025 she seemed less powerful than fans anticipated.
5) Mister Terrific

I have to say, Mister Terrific quickly became my absolute favorite character! Edi Gathegi totally stole the show in that 2025 movie, honestly. I wasn’t expecting to like him as much as I did – he was just such a capable and genuinely likable hero. He wasn’t just a great fighter, either; they really showcased him as a brilliant inventor. His tech skills let him go toe-to-toe with everything – metahumans, aliens, you name it! Honestly, the way his inventions actually helped him win fights made him one of the most surprisingly powerful superheroes we’ve seen on screen in a long time.
4) Sue Storm / The Invisible Woman

Vanessa Kirby’s portrayal of Sue Storm in 2025 was the best live-action version of the character yet. In the Fantastic Four’s first MCU appearance, she quickly established herself as the team’s most powerful member. Showcasing her light-bending and psychic abilities, Sue Storm impressively cloaked a spaceship while in labor and later even managed to physically restrain the massive villain Galactus, solidifying her place as one of the MCU’s strongest new heroes that year.
3) Green Lantern

In the 2025 film Superman, Guy Gardner quickly emerged as a standout hero with immense power. Like other Green Lanterns, he can create anything he imagines using his power ring, and his abilities proved to be both incredibly versatile and formidable. Director James Gunn hinted that Gardner might even be more powerful than Superman, establishing him as one of the most powerful new characters introduced in the film.
2) Superman

It’s no surprise that Superman is considered one of the strongest characters debuting in 2025. David Corenswet’s portrayal in the new DCU film Superman redefined the character and launched a new storyline. With his well-known and diverse powers, stemming from his alien origins, Superman is undoubtedly one of the most powerful heroes introduced that year.
1) Sentry

Sentry narrowly edges out Superman as the most powerful new movie hero of 2025, having first appeared in Thunderbolts. While his powers are comparable to Superman’s, Sentry is harder to defeat because his weakness is more difficult to exploit. Few characters could win in a direct fight against him, and based on his impressive debut in Thunderbolts, he stands out as the most formidable new hero of the year.
