With the Xbox Developer_Direct approaching on January 22nd, leaked concept art is giving us a good look at the environments players can expect in Playground Games’ Fable. As reported by Mp1st, the art reveals diverse regions, different times of day, and even a glimpse of what seems to be an underground sewer area.
The concept art features a sprawling city in the distance, which the main character views from a wilderness area. One piece of art suggests the city might be called Bloodstone, marked by a wooden sign. The sewers, however, are fairly generic, mainly consisting of obstacles and debris the character must overcome. The final artwork depicts the hero confronting a massive werewolf.
Concept art reveals a small, swampy settlement referred to as “Hamlet.” This location may be the player character’s home. The artwork shows two versions of Hamlet – one as it currently is, and another depicting the aftermath of a recent flood.
New concept art reveals more details about Bloodstone, a city that appears to be divided into different areas, including a marketplace and a place called Pub Island. One shop we can expect to find there is The Phoenix Feather, which sounds like it could be an inn based on typical fantasy naming styles.
This artwork features various treasure chests. Their designs could suggest how valuable the contents are, or even where the chests are located in the game world.
At the upcoming event, Microsoft and Playground Games will be showing off Fable. There’s a chance we’ll even get a look at actual gameplay. Plus, keep an eye out for news about a possible fourth, unannounced game that’s expected to be revealed at the Developer_Direct.
Okay, so Fable was originally announced way back in 2020, but honestly, we haven’t seen a ton of actual gameplay yet – just a few fancy trailers. Microsoft said we’d be playing it in 2026, but according to Nick Baker over at XboxEra (he reported this back in July 2025), it’s looking like it might get delayed to 2027. It seems like they need more time to really polish it up, which is understandable, but still a little disappointing!
Last year, Baker stated he didn’t believe the new Fable game would release in 2026. He’s heard from two sources that the release might be pushed back to 2027, but clarified this isn’t due to major issues with the game—simply that development is taking longer than initially planned.
The game Fable is currently in development for PC and Xbox Series X/S. Recent reports suggest it will also launch on PlayStation 5 on the same date.
