The popular Fallout video game series saw a big surge in popularity when the Fallout TV show premiered in Spring 2024, and the show’s second season is bringing even more attention to the games. If you’re currently playing Fallout 4, Bethesda has released some free downloadable content to enhance your experience.
Fallout 4 has a selection of player-created mods, called Creations, which are approved and sold by the game’s developer. While most of these mods cost money, Bethesda recently released four free ones for all platforms – Xbox, PC, and PlayStation. Unfortunately, these weren’t widely advertised, which is a shame because they offer a significant amount of new content and gameplay.
Here are some new additions you can find in the Fallout 4 Creations Store: The Varmint Rifle by Neeher, The Tale of the Beast Hunter by Hobgoblin Studios, the Brotherhood of Steel T60 Pistol created by Volodymyr Bondarchuk (Painter2099) and Armando Neto (NetoElite), and Revenge of the Van Graffs, also by those same creators.
The Varmint Rifle is back from Fallout: New Vegas, and the new content in both ‘The Tale of the Beast Hunter’ and ‘Revenge of the Van Graffs’ includes groups and equipment that remind players of that earlier game. Additionally, the T60 Pistol add-on lets you use a powerful weapon from the Fallout TV series in Fallout 4.
These four creations are definitely worth a look, especially if you enjoyed both Fallout: New Vegas and the recent Amazon TV series – and chances are, if you’re a Fallout fan, you probably did! The show has been incredibly popular, and many consider New Vegas to be the best game in the Fallout series.

You can find the Varmint Rifle in a hidden dungeon west of Cambridge Polymer Labs. Follow the river and look for a raider attempting to get into a sewer. The dungeon inside is full of unmarked puzzles, and if you solve them, the Varmint Rifle is yours!
In Tale of the Beast Hunter, players experience a seven-part audio adventure to discover the story behind the legendary Beast Hunter. The Creation pack also includes a special outfit with designs inspired by the famous NCR Veteran Rangers and the Lucky 38 casino, plus a new weapon called “Judge” – a Revolver Shotgun – and a player home named “The Bar,” which is designed to look like the iconic casinos of New Vegas.
The T60 Pistol is a small add-on that introduces the weapon to the Brotherhood of Steel’s supplies and places it in a few locations, such as the Cambridge Police Station and Elder Maxson’s quarters on the Prydwen. Like the ‘Tale of the Beast Hunter’ add-on, ‘Revenge of the Van Graffs’ is relatively limited in scope.
After reaching Level 15, you’ll receive a distress call on the radio that starts a new quest. This quest involves dealing with a group of mercenaries in black armor – players who enjoyed Fallout: New Vegas will remember them as the arms dealers from Freeside. Completing the quest will reward you with the Laser RCW and Plasma Defender weapons, which were originally from New Vegas, and these weapons will then start appearing more often throughout the game.
As an analyst, I haven’t personally experienced these add-ons yet, but I’ve reviewed several walkthroughs and showcases. What I’ve seen is really promising – the quests and gear are well-made, with strong voice acting, good writing, and impressive graphics. I definitely recommend checking out these free Creations; especially after the issues with the Fallout 4 Anniversary Edition, they’re a welcome addition to the game.
Fallout 4, like all the other games in the Fallout series, can be played with an Xbox Game Pass subscription on both Xbox consoles and PC.
