Lost content from the PlayStation 1 game *Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro* has been discovered, nearly 24 years after the game’s original release. Before Insomniac Games made Spider-Man games, Activision released popular adventures on the PS1. The 2000 game *Spider-Man* is still remembered fondly, but its 2001 sequel, *Enter Electro*, wasn’t as popular – and there was a good reason why.
The video game *Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro* was originally planned to release in September 2001, but it ended up launching in October. The delay was due to a major change needed right before release. The game’s final boss battle was initially set to take place at the World Trade Center in New York City. Following the September 11th attacks and the destruction of the Twin Towers, the developers had to quickly redesign the final stage to avoid any connection to the real-world location.
In addition to these changes, the game developer, Vicarious Visions, also cut a final scene featuring Thor appearing and speaking with Spider-Man after the last battle. Although the original PlayStation version of *Enter Electro* briefly mentioned Thor at the end, the actual scene showing him was removed because it included the Twin Towers and couldn’t be easily edited. After more than 20 years, this lost footage has now been released online.
Thor Scene From Spider-Man 2 Finally Sees the Light of Day
This week, Instagram user BobbyFan85 shared the original ending to *Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro*. The short video, which is just over a minute long, was reportedly filmed in October 2001. BobbyFan85 hasn’t explained where they got the unedited footage, but says it was found on an old hard drive they still had.
Although it may seem minor, this finally gives Spider-Man fans a long-awaited resolution to the ‘Enter Electro’ content, something they’ve desired for over twenty years. It’s clear why Activision removed this scene originally, but it always made ‘Spider-Man 2’ feel incomplete, particularly when looking back at the first game. Now, this scene helps fill in those missing pieces and lets fans experience the original ending that the game’s developer, Vicarious Visions, intended, even if the changes aren’t massive.
