Man, the wait for Half-Life 3 has gotten to the point where I’ll believe any rumor I see online. Seriously, it’s become the gaming equivalent of chasing a ghost – we’ve been waiting almost 20 years! After Half-Life 2 came out, Valve tried something cool with episodic content, letting the story move forward without having to build a whole new game each time. It seemed like a smart move, but it totally blew up in their face. They started working on Episode 3, but then… things just stopped. They slowly stopped mentioning it, and eventually, it became pretty obvious it wasn’t happening anymore.
The long-awaited game, often called Half-Life 3 by its fans, was ultimately cancelled because the developers didn’t think it offered enough innovation. Despite this, many dedicated fans still believe it might happen, particularly after Half-Life: Alyx changed the ending of Episode 2 and introduced a new cliffhanger, hinting that Valve had fresh ideas for Gordon Freeman’s story. While we don’t know what the future holds, fans are confident Half-Life 3 will eventually be released – they’re just waiting to find out when.
Half-Life 3 Fans Are Desperate for Some Good News
For years, rumors have circulated about a potential Half-Life 3 announcement, particularly after Valve unveiled the Steam Machine and a new VR headset. While many expected new hardware to be accompanied by a game, Valve hasn’t officially said anything. Now, all attention is focused on December 11th and The Game Awards, as fans hope for a reveal. However, past disappointments have made some wary, and the current excitement has unfortunately led to the spread of misleading fake rumors that are starting to trick people.
A user on Reddit, posting anonymously, recently claimed they worked on Half-Life 3 through a company that helped Valve improve its physics and water effects using artificial intelligence. This user predicted a reveal of the game on December 11th. While fans quickly shared the post, it’s almost certainly not true. The user admitted to using AI to write the post, claiming it was just for editing and polishing, but any AI-generated Reddit post is immediately questionable. Someone with genuine knowledge of the subject wouldn’t need AI assistance to write about it.

Past rumors about Half-Life 3 suggest Valve’s plans for water are different than what this post claims. Because of that, it’s probably a fake designed to get people talking. It’s possible we’re wrong, but we’ll need to wait and see what happens.
This effect is only suitable for creating large splashes or bursts of water, not for realistic, flowing water simulations. There’s a separate effect in the game that uses particles to show water leaking – it’s just a basic animated particle system.
