Fans Slam The Odyssey Trailer With a Tidal Wave Of Criticism Over 1 Thing

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey was highly anticipated since its announcement in 2026, and initial concerns about the story were minor. However, the first trailer release sparked much more criticism, with most of it focused on one particular aspect of the film.

People are particularly focused on the historical accuracy of Agamemnon’s armor in the new trailer, especially the helmet. The trailer shows close-ups of both the front and back of the helmet, and many viewers feel the design choices aren’t true to historical styles. The biggest criticism seems to be directed at the helmet’s back design.

King Agamemnon’s Helmet In The Odyssey Is The No. 1 Topic (But That’s Not A Good Thing)

Honestly, I’m a little worried about how the movie is looking. Some parts feel really true to the original story, which I love, but then other things, like the design of the helmet, feel really different. It’s causing some debate among fans – and rightfully so – about the best way to bring a fantasy world to life on screen. It’s a tricky balance, and I hope they can find a way to make it all work together.

Given that this is a film by Christopher Nolan, people immediately started comparing it to his Batman movies. One Twitter user, @BarbaraBrendt, joked that Nolan reused elements from Batman to save money, and @fdecollibus playfully compared the film’s protagonist to Batman, then corrected themselves, calling him Agamemnon.

Some viewers also questioned the historical accuracy, with one Twitter user, @lightman1980, pointing out that the helmet didn’t seem authentic for the Mycenaean period, resembling something from a comic book or video game instead. They worried the film would prioritize spectacle—impressive visuals and a powerful soundtrack—over substance.

Social media users are reacting to the design choices in the upcoming film Odyssey. @Sturgeons_Law questioned the quality of the helmet designs, stating they look terrible. Similarly, @ramakin joked about the helmet’s design in the trailer, specifically a spinal tail, pointing out it feels more fitting for a fantasy world like Mordor than ancient Greece. Despite the critique, @ramakin expressed excitement to see the movie. Both users used the hashtags #Odyssey, #odysseytrailer, and #NOLAN to share their thoughts.

While some people are also criticizing the appearances of other characters, Agamemnon is currently receiving the most attention. This is likely to shift as more of the film is revealed, especially considering the fantastical creatures and settings in The Odyssey. It will be interesting to see if the conversation changes once those elements are shown.

The Odyssey hits theaters on July 17, 2026.
