It seems that the director of the Fantastic Four, Matt Shakman, is subtly suggesting a shift in the aspect ratio during IMAX scenes when Galactus makes an appearance in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film.
Later this month, the Marvel film “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” will hit U.S. theaters. This movie is helmed by Kevin Feige, and it features Pedro Pascal portraying Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Ebon Moss-Bachrach stepping into the role of Benn Grimm/The Thing, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, Julia Garner taking on Shalla-Bal/Silver Surfer, and Ralph Ineson cast as Galactus.
What did Matt Shakman say about Fantastic Four in IMAX?
In an exciting preview for the upcoming IMAX release of Fantastic Four, director Shakman shared that the film has been specifically crafted to take full advantage of the IMAX experience. He explained, “We’ve created a world where you travel through space and navigate Manhattan’s towering skyline. We captured the city’s vertical scale, and then there’s the universe’s largest entity, and everything around it adapts [makes hand gesture as the video’s aspect ratio changes]. This movie embraces the grandeur of IMAX.

In a 1960s-style, futuristic setting, Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps presents its primary superhero family – Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm/Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm/Human Torch (Joseph Quinn) and Ben Grimm/The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach). They confront their toughest challenge yet, juggling their heroic duties with the power of their family ties. The group must protect Earth from a destructive space deity named Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his cryptic lieutenant, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). The threat of Galactus consuming the planet is already dire, but it quickly becomes personal for them.
Alongside Paul Walter Hauser, John Malkovich, Natasha Lyonne, and Sarah Niles are part of this film’s talented ensemble.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps hits United States theaters and IMAX on July 25, 2025.
