For years, fans have wondered about the future of the Far Cry series. Ubisoft remained tight-lipped until recently, but CEO Yves Guillemot has now confirmed that two new Far Cry projects are currently in development following a major company restructuring.
According to a recent Variety interview, Ubisoft is working on two new ‘Far Cry’ games and excitement is building. While details are scarce, it appears a rumored extraction shooter, internally known as ‘Project Maverick,’ is still in development despite recent project cancellations.
While Far Cry is a well-known franchise from Vantage Studios, Assassin’s Creed is another key property. According to Guillemot, multiple Assassin’s Creed titles are currently in development, offering both single-player and multiplayer options, and the goal is to expand upon a player base that already reached over 30 million last year.
Currently, Ubisoft is working on Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe, with a possible release date in 2027. A remake of the popular Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag has been rumored for a while and might be shown in April, although reports suggest it’s been pushed back to next year. Finally, there’s Invictus, a project that hasn’t received many details since it was announced and doesn’t seem to be generating much excitement internally.
Despite recent strong financial results for the Assassin’s Creed franchise, it appears the series isn’t immune to project cancellations. Reports indicate that a cooperative game, codenamed League and intended to tie into Assassin’s Creed Shadows, was scrapped. Shortly after, news surfaced that a mobile game, Assassin’s Creed Singularity, was also cancelled after approximately two years of development.
The game Assassin’s Creed Shadows is getting regular updates, with the newest one including a manual jump button and more in-depth character stats. While the Claws of Awaji expansion will be available on the Switch 2 starting March 10th, don’t anticipate another expansion of that size being released this year.
